[SOLVED] GTX 1080 Ti Strix - if I don't use a custom, aggresive fan curve it eventually overheats and restarts my PC

Hi. So this is my fan curve https://i.imgur.com/LvR2ksL.png ( 50°C - 60% , 60°C - 75%, 70°C - 85% , 75°C - 95% ). I have to activate it while playing any demanding game such as AC Odyssey or even Rust / DayZ since I'm getting high fps playing at 144hz and it gets much hotter than when I was playing at 60hz. If I don't activate it then the GPU eventually reaches 80+ degrees in less than an hour and restarts my PC. I don't want to rely on the fan curve anymore because afterburner makes some games crash and IMO it's not good for my GPU over time.. especially since I'm playing 5+ hours a day on a work day and ~12 hours on weekends .. that means the fans will be at 90-95% all the time. So what can I do?

You can either check to see if you have warranty left and contact the manufacturer for an RMA request, or take of the cooler and reapply the thermal paste and see where that takes the temps. But if you do that you may void the warranty. What is your case intake/exhaust look like? Is your card unable to keep itself cool because it's choked off? Something for you to look at maybe. Anyhow good luck

Sounds like heat is just gradually building up. I agree with the other poser. If you've got any warranty left, RMA it. If you don't, then I would suggest if you're comfortable enough, apply new paste, make sure the fans are in good working order. Also, set up some fans to move more air around it to keep air from building up.

Basically a bracket, you supply your own fans, install them upward to push cool air into the card. Had a setup like this with 2 fans when I had my rx 480.

While I concur with the previous answers, I would also try without an overclock on your CPU (put it back to stock clocks/default voltage) and see what the temps are for both CPU and GPU after that.
