As the title suggests, I'm curious if there is a gap of power/speed difference worth buying the ti over the regular 1080. Sorry if I respond late, and thank you in advance if I personally forget to do so!

Solution
if you are considering a 1080ti or a 1080, then the ti wins hands down. If you are going from a 1080 to a 1080ti, it depends on whether you have issues at the moment. What resolution, anything below 1440p is pointless for either of them.
Worth it? That depends. What do you need?

Every step up in video cards in the same generation results in a diminishing returns. So the ROI(return on investment) is worse. Or put another way each additional frame (in FPS) you buy costs you more then the previous one. So the 1080 will give you a better value (more frames per dollar) than the 1080ti. However the 1080ti is simply faster. If this increase in speed is worth it to YOU only YOU can answer. Alternately you can do it as a use case. What resolution and features do you need? If you need 4k with moderately high performance, the TI is probably barely good enough. If you need 1080p then both are over kill.

Unless your gpu is a couple of generations old, like 780 or older, then no, a 1080ti is probably not worth it. Grab/keep 1080 and save moolah.
Heck 980 is still a beast of a card - bragging rights are the only reason I see upgrading from that.
I'm still running a 680 here, so yeah, I was due for a lvl up.

Alright, thanks for the heads-up, but I'm curious as to why resolution plays so much into graphics cards, heard people say that a lot

Gotcha, appreciate the tips and information

Makes sense, but I haven't bought the regular 1080 yet and was planning too, double checked the price yesterday/deal with wildlands/for honor with the 1080 and found the ti came out.

Yea, I didn't make it much clear, thanks for the affirmation!

because the higher the resolution, the more pixels it has to process.

Now several generations ago the top end cards were needed to give good performance at 1080p, nowadays the mid range cards do that easily, and the top end cards are needed for 1440p and 4k. So at 1080p you can get a great experience with a 1060, or even a 1050/1050ti.

Gotcha, thanks for the info!

I came here to post the same thing :/ I hope OP grabbed the 1080ti because that option is no longer on the table unless you have a spare wheelbarrow of cash
