Hello all,

i'm looking for a graphics card to pair up with Ryzen 7 2700x CPU and was wondering which one would be better out of the 1080 Ti and the RTX 2060.

Thanks

One important thing to keep in mind with the GTX 1080Ti. Even so its is very close to the performance of a RTX 2080 (about 5% difference), this is only true in DX11. If you look at some benchmarks with Vulkan or DX12, the Turing (RTX cards) is doing much better than Pascal (GTX 10 series). Look for example at some Red Dead Redemption 2 benchmarks. This is DX12 and Vulkan only and the GTX1080Ti is about 2% slower than RTX2070 and 13% slower than RTX2070Super. More and more games using low level APIs and I believe its probably getting more and more with the new generations consoles that will come out later this year. I would stay away of Pascall cards and would go either with Nvidia RTX (Turing and upcoming next gen) or AMD Navi and...
The 1000 series will soon be on it's way out given how close we are to a release of the 3000 series GPU's. Thinking about driver support and better performance's and lower TDP, I'd pick the RTX 2060 Super not the regular RTX 2060.

Provided you've got a 650W reliably built PSU to handle the entire system.

wow I didn’t know we was close to the 3000 series.

this is my planned build:

CPU: Ryzen 7 2700x
MOBO: ASUS ROG STRIX X470-F
RAM: Corsair vengeance 3200mhz 4x 16gb
GPU: possibly a RTX 2060 Super
PSU: Corsair RM 750i (already in current rig)

1080 ti is better then 2070 super and slower then 2080 super, somewhere in the middle. Recommending a less powerful card is not making sense for me. Yes it can reach up to 250W and 100W more the cpu so a good quality 450-550W PSU should handle this build.

EDIT: I already see you ahve a good quality PSU, 1080 ti should be your choice or the future 3070, otherwise i would not consider 2060 super. Go for at least 2070 super to be future proof. An essential information to recommend a videocard is the resolution and fps you want to play pls provide that and i may change my recommendation.

If your system is capable, you can always wait for the 3000 series GPUs to come out, they're set to release mid 2020, but that will be a bit of a gamble considering if they have a terrible launch such as the case with the 2000 series.

If you can get a good deal on a used GTX 1080 ti , you should take it. If you are not going to buy a used gpu then definitely take the RTX2060. If i were you i would search for a good deal on a used GTX1080 ti or even a regular GTX1080. I recently bought a GTX 1070 ti for a really good price. I just don't think the RTX cards are worth the money
