I have a 8-pin PCI-E cord but the other end fits perfectly into the CPU slot on the power supply rather than the VGA slot. Isn't it supposed to fit at the VGA port. Is this okay or will this damage something? I just played bf1 on ultra just now for a whole hour with no issues or over heating. My power supply is a EVGA 750 Watt Gold. GTX 1080 Ti FTW3.

It should fit the VGA slot. They are the same 8-pin. Try it again.

As long as you don't use the CPU cable (the actual cord) to power a VGA/PCIE device you might be okay. But, I wouldn't recommend it. Some power supplies can have different pin configurations that can do damage to components if connected improperly.
