GTX 1080 underperforming by 10 fps+ ?

So just yesterday I decided to invest in a top end gpu for the first time and went for the Asus GTX 1080 Strix (not the OC version) and tried out some games to see if the performance would match the reviews of the same card. I maxed out everything at 1440p, and obviously looked at benchmarks that did the same, at stock clock. Unfortunately, my card didnt match other GTX 1080's. It might have to do with the rest of my rig, but i was led to believe that it wouldnt be a bottleneck. For example, i tried out witcher 3, and got maybe 50-55 fps in many sections where reviews and other benchmarks got over 60. I had hairworks maxed out, but so did all the other places i looked at. Strangely enough the card did better than most in 3dmark 11, with a score of 29000.

Here is my rig besides the gpu:
Core i5 3570k at 4.2 ghz
1600mhz corsair vengeance RAM
Asrock Z77 Extreme4-M (m-atx)

So yes, the gpu is much more recent than the rest, but Witcher 3 isnt cpu intensive (50-60% load), and the OC should fix any bottlenecks from what ive read, why am i getting so much lower performance than other benchmarks?

Any insights would be appreciated!

10 FPS isn't much of a variance and could be accounted for by any number of things. Memory speed, motherboard, driver version, clock speeds, individual settings, etc. I wouldn't worry about it since the only way to really know if it was under-performing was to compare it to an identical system.

My set up is almost similar to yours.
3570k @4.5ghz
2133mhz G.skill ram
Asrock z77 extreme 4
Zotac 1080 AMP edition

The only game i get some cpu bottleneck is battlefield 4 multiplayer.

Make sure your are running the latest drivers, bios etc.

I used to run my 3570k at 4.3ghz and bottleneck was more sever in BF4, 4.5ghz and faster ram will help a lil bit.

Look into your drivers first and try to have your graphics setting sett all the way up in witcher 3 (turn off hairworks), you shoud be runing 60-80fps.

Ok i will do that, have you tried maxing Witcher 3 out with Hairworks on? IF so, did you catch what fps you got? I tried out the section in the beginning when you wake up from the dream and are attacked by some ghouls, with vesemir.

Ok i just tried with hairworks on and all hairworks settings maxed out in that section u mentioned, i get the same fps and no cpu bottleneck, it's just hairworks killing performance. Turn it off and forget about it....you ll gain 10-20fps.
