GTX 1080 Wire?

Soon im going to be making an upgrade from my GTX 970 FTW Edition to GTX 1080 FTW (Unless you think their is a better card for gaming, then let me know) but i have a question with the cord connected to my GTX 970 right now will i be able to use that same cord for the 1080 ? If not how do i go about hooking up the new cards cord?

What power supply? The 970 FTW uses two 6pin pcie connectors, the 1080 FTW uses two 8pin pcie connectors.

Do you see two unused pins hanging off the 6pin connector that plugs into your 970? If so its a 6+2pin pcie connector that can be used in both pin and 8pin ports. You would just attach the +2 when using the 1080. The connector i'm talking about looks like this below.
