[SOLVED] Gtx 1080ti to rtx 2080

Hi, i recently was able to pick up a cheap gaming system with an i7 8700k and a gtx 1080ti asus strix. It was a prebuilt from pc specialist and had pretty high end components such as a gold rated corsair psu, 570x corsair case as well as a h100i v2 cooler.
Due to the rtx 3000 series gpus, the rtx 2000 gpus are going quite cheap so i was wondering if i should sell the gtx 1080ti and buy rtx 2080 (not super).
And how much performance difference is there between an rtx 2080 and a 2080 super. Hoping to get trio model

There is about a 5% performance difference between the RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Super.

The RTX 2080 and GTX 1080 Ti are tied in most games, with a slight edge to the RTX 2080 at times. Keep in mind that the 1080 Ti has 11 GB of VRAM whereas the 2080s both have 8 GB.

In my opinion, there are only a few reasons to upgrade from a 1080 Ti to a 2080/2080 Super:

1. You want ray-tracing
2. You want to use DLSS
3. You do folding@home (better points per day)

If none of these describe you, there is no reason to upgrade unless you really want that extra 5% performance.

Yes i would definitely like to use ray tracing as its horrible on the 1080ti. Would there be any performance loss in the 1440p or 4k resolutions if i choose to go with the 2080.

If you want Ray tracing and dlss get RTX3070 and play at 1440p for a long time atleast more than 2080 get 3070.

Performance should be much better with ray tracing and nearly identical without.

There are lots of performance analysis' available that compare the 2080 and 1080 Ti with different games and at different resolutions. If you are worried, look up the games you want to play and find the difference between the two GPUs.
