I am looking at upgrading my 4 year old GTX970. I only game at 1080p but I do like some of the more demanding AAA RPGs and also modding Skyrim and Fallout and the GPU is starting to hold me back a bit in this regard and I think this is only likely to get worse with time. I have 144hz monitor and the rest of system is still pretty good (i5 6600k @ 4.5ghz, 16gb 3000mhz DDR4, SSD boot and storage, so I think with an upgraded GPU I should be good for the next 3-4years before building a whole new system.
At the moment the GTX 1660ti and RX Vega 56 are both priced between £250-270 in the UK (brand new) whereas the RTX2060 is a step up to about £320. On the face of it the Vega card seems a steal at this price but I am concerned about the power draw as I have a 650W PSU (EVGA G2 Gold) The 1660ti wil be no problem to overclock whereas I may have to undervolt and underclock the Vega card to be on the safe side from what I am reading on here and other places. With this in mind will the performance difference between the 2 cards be negated?
I am aware of the new Super Nvidia cards and the Navi cards but it seems likely they will all cost over £300 in the UK and really be overkill for 1080p gaming at least for the next 2-3 years?
