I am looking at upgrading my 4 year old GTX970. I only game at 1080p but I do like some of the more demanding AAA RPGs and also modding Skyrim and Fallout and the GPU is starting to hold me back a bit in this regard and I think this is only likely to get worse with time. I have 144hz monitor and the rest of system is still pretty good (i5 6600k @ 4.5ghz, 16gb 3000mhz DDR4, SSD boot and storage, so I think with an upgraded GPU I should be good for the next 3-4years before building a whole new system.

At the moment the GTX 1660ti and RX Vega 56 are both priced between £250-270 in the UK (brand new) whereas the RTX2060 is a step up to about £320. On the face of it the Vega card seems a steal at this price but I am concerned about the power draw as I have a 650W PSU (EVGA G2 Gold) The 1660ti wil be no problem to overclock whereas I may have to undervolt and underclock the Vega card to be on the safe side from what I am reading on here and other places. With this in mind will the performance difference between the 2 cards be negated?

I am aware of the new Super Nvidia cards and the Navi cards but it seems likely they will all cost over £300 in the UK and really be overkill for 1080p gaming at least for the next 2-3 years?

Depends of the games you play and if you are the type of the person who want the best graphics. With 1660ti probably you have to drop the graphics more to reach that 144hz rather than vega 56. I would compare vega 56 with gtx 1070ti and rtx 2060 and not 1660ti. Overall vega 56 is a better card than 1660ti just more power consumption but i think your psu is enough anyway.
