Im looking at picking up a GTX 260 core 216 and im wondering if im going to see a big jump from what i currently have. right now i have 2 8800gt 512meg g92 in SLI. I can pick up a evga gtx260 for about 185 at my local computer shop and im wondering if it is worth the upgrade. advice please :D
they also have a msi 4870 1gig for about 150, so im also looking at that as an option.
mainly i play fps like cod4 and l4d. im also in the beta for shattered horizon and i want to see a higher framrate since i cant use sli currently for SH cuz there is some sort of bug with it. i also do a lot of video encoding and i give a lot of load to the gpu. i have a phenom 9850 BE at 3.0ghz and 8 gigs of ddr2 800.

this is the nvidia card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130434

and this is the ati card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127413

EDIT: i just found out they are out of stock of the GTX260, so would the 4870 be worthy?

It also depends on what resolution the OP is playing at. I would take one higher performing GPU with a larger frame buffer over 2 less powerful cards with smaller frame buffers. 1650x1080 and below the 8800s are a better choice.

Your 8800gt's are faster in SLi then the 260 and 4870, and even if they did give you a gain it would be very minimal and not worth your 200 bucks. If I were you I would save your money for the new cards coming out this year.

The performance at 1920 x 1080 is not to be sniffed at either! [:mousemonkey:4]

My reason for my comment we because my ATI 4850 was having lots of trouble with Fallout 3 @ 1920x1200 with ultra details + 4X AA. After I upgraded to the GTX 260 C216, I haven't had a single issue.
