GTX 260 sli or 4870 crossfire?

Any idea on performance figures between two GTX260's in SLI compared to the 4870 in crossfire? From what I have read the Nvidia cards scale very well in SLI mode whereas the ATI cards scale poorly or in some cases perform even slower. Any idea if drivers will make a massive upgrade to ATI performance? Otherwise it is probably just best to get two GTX 260's?

4870 in crossfire. I haven't seen anything that indicate sli scale significantly better than cf. With sli, you have to put up with lousy nvidia chipset, but with cf, you can use quality intel chipset motherboards.

Any suggestions on a motherboard? I would love to get two 4870's, just wondering if they would fit in my current case or if my 750 watt PSU would be able to keep up.

If not I would probably upgrade to the Antec P190 case with the 2 X 600 watt PSU's included.

4870 CF - same performance, much cheaper than 260 SLI

P.S. 750W will be more that enough for 2x 4870

I'm sure new drivers will fix the few scaling problems with the 4870's. They scale really well in some games and really badly in others, which tells me it's just up to driver optimization.

Motherboard just depends on your price range. The Gigabyte GA-X48 would be the ideal board for me, since both slots run PCI-E 2.0 x16 in CF mode.

Righto, think I will go for 4870 CF then with my current PSU and see how I do. In the future when I decide to experiment with extra cooling and OC I will upgrade the case and PSU then. Thanks for all the help.

LOL. Two 4870's in CF is much better then one GTX 280! You would have to pay 49$ more for the 280 and then you would get a lower performance. Choose the two 4870's or even better wait for the 4870x2!

no doubt go with 4870 xfire.. it is the best way, price, performence and it takes less power then 260 sli. so go with 4870 without any doubt

Yup, the 4870s offer unprecedented performance for the price. I simply could not believe the benchies for these things. Only problem - where can I get one (two)?

If you want to pay less and get more, go with a few 4870's, However, If you'd like to pay more and get less. By all means, get a GTX260 SLI and an awful Nvidia chipset. My last board had an Nvidia Chipset. Now I have an Intel Chipset.

look you don't have to buy only one.. NVIDIA NVIDIA NVIDIA.. damn it.. read reviews and you will see who is better..
i am not saying that one or the othher is better, but please.. sometimes NVIDIA sucks and ati goes more, but sometimes happens other way, so compare and read reviews then say who is better.
in this situation 4870 CF [~610$] beats easy.. 280 [~650]
