GTX 260 SLI Vs GTS 250

I am trying to decide if I should buy a configuration with 2 GTX 260 cards in SLI Vs single GTS 250. Not a serious gamer but pc will be used for heavy HD content viewing. Have a monitor that supports high res. The difference in price is about $200.

Although I am reading the SLI config is for extreming gaming wondering if this is an worthwhile spend assuming future apps could leverage this considering i plan on using the pc for a while.

Why 2x GTX 260 vs a single GTS 250?

One GTX 260 is already more powerful than 1 GTS 250.

On a side note, I don't believe you need anything too powerful just to watch HD movies. A single GTS 250 should work, heck something lower would also work.

Don't exist comparation point. one GTX260 can beat the GTS250, so, 2 GTX260 in SLI are really more powerfull that one GTS250

Now, for HD movies, is enough with a GTX260, not 2.

Thanks for the response. The comparison is because of two pre-built configs that are available that I am looking at. The two things that are different about them are price and the Graphics cards. Hence the comparison between the 2 GTX.

Awww okay. Well you don't need two GTX 260's to watch HD movies. One is enough. One GTS 250 is enough. Since you're not playing games the GTS 250 will save you money.

LOL this is kinda dumb a 9300 gt built into the ion mobos can push 1080p why would anyone suggest even the 250 much less the 260 for just watching HD content maybe encoding with bada or something but otherwise the video card will sit there and suck power and never be used.

The OP is buying a pre-built PC, I guess if he had an option to get something weaker than the 250 he would have said so....

Dual GTX 260's are basically meant for gaming at high resolutions, you will have more than enough GPU power with a single 250 for any HD content viewing 😉

Since you're not gaming, both setups are extreme overkill for you. You really would be better off with a cheaper Radeon card, like the 4670 or GT 220 since both can handle HD content just fine and have built in audio to use over HDMI. If a GTS 250 is your cheapest option, then just go with that.
