i am considering building a pc for the first time and was eyeing the gtx 260 but it seems a little pricey for me right now. does ATI radeon have a comparable performace to the gtx 260 with a lower price?

i play on getting the Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz Quad-Core LGA1156 Desktop Processor. are intel processors compatible with amd gpu's? and vice versa?
i am fairly new to pc building so this may seem like a dumb question.

thanks for any advice.

ATI's solution to the GTX 260 is the HD4870. A 4870 1GB usually bests a GTX 260 in most titles, although the ones that favor Nvidia, the 260 bests the 4870. They go for about $150+. I haven't seen the 512MB version around much anymore. The 4xxx cards will start fizzling away to make room for the 5xxx cards.

this site is not 100% because there software does not work right with multi processer GPU's like the GTX 295 or the ATI 4870 x2 but other then that error its right about just about everything.

as mindless said the ATI 4870 is the closes thing but honestly the extra money is worth it inless your runing on a verysmall or very low res screen like a old 1280x1024 screen does not need eather of these you could go with somthing fairly weak like a 9800 GT or ATI 4770

But if like me your runing on a 1920x1080 screen you really need the power of the GTX 260 or a ATI 4870 also if your runing at a higher res like this you should get a 1GB card not a 512MB card its not a huge issue but the higher the res the more ram the system needs to work well of corse that depends on setings also

Also just so you know the GTX 260 does give some advantages in some games that are fairly major because of things like Physx

They are basically the same. Most put their own cooler on these cards by now so some are better than others. HIS has a REALLY nice IceQ cooler. The only difference is the coolers and the support you get from the company.

You may as well get the XFX card. Its the cheapest and has free shipping. XFX has a double lifetime warranty, which means you have a lifetime warranty and if you sell it you can transfer the warranty to a 2nd person. They are very reputable.
