Solution

I checked the manual and you can change in BIOS which generation of PCI-e graphics is used: Miscellaneous --> PEG Gen3 Slot Configuration --> set to Gen2 (the default setting is AUTO).

While in BIOS, check also the voltages, +12V especially (your PSU is a little bit old, maybe it is not in the best shape anymore).

Im guessing you mean GTS 250? It may be because your motherboard doesn't support the GPU very well, how old is this PC?

Hello,

The system's behaviour leads to some power problems; what make/model is your PSU? It should have at least +12V/30A (or +12V/2x17A for dual-rail).

Did you uninstalled the Intel graphic drivers, set in BIOS to boot from PCI-e graphics card and move the monitor cable from integrated graphics to the GTX285?

How old is the GTX285? It came from a reliable source?

Another thing is: your CPU has PCI-e 3.0 graphics support, while the old GPU has PCI-e 2.0 (it should be backwards compatible though).

So it remains the PSU, the incompatibility with the motherboard or some software issues. The system restarts without any warnings (beeps, BSODs, etc)? Try to disable the Automatic Restart feature (Control Panel --> System Properties --> Advanced --> Startup and Recovery --> disable Automatically Restart.
