GTX 280 Power connector info

So me being the cheapskate I am, bought a stand-alone GTX 280 from Ebay, not realizing the connectors would not be included.

This is also my first time putting together a rig, but I overlooked the part about what power connectors go with what. So I asked around and I kept getting directed to a bunch of PCI-E 2 y-shaped 8/6 pin connectors that go for about 7$.

But my question is, do I have to use 2 separate power connectors for each of the card's ports? or can I just use something like this:

to plug both the 6 and 8 pin ports and have them juiced by the one 6pin connector on the other end? Or do I need individual connectors for each the 6 and 8pin outputs? (And if so, where could I find said connectors? links would be greatly appreciated)

I don't get it .
The psu you linked to has all the neccessary connectors needed to run dual 280's and then some ( 4 x 6 pin and 2 x 8 pin ), you don't need any adapters.

When I meant "stand alone" I meant it was JUST the GPU itself, no box, no manual, no quickstart guide, no cables, etc. Thus my question as to what cables to use since I have no idea at all 9_6;;

I did find the quickstart guide online as PDF but it had no mention as to wether to use 2 cables or a Y splitter~

The psu you linked to has all the neccessary connectors needed to run dual 280's and then some ( 4 x 6 pin and 2 x 8 pin ), you don't need any adapters.

Also, to rephrase myself, my question is:

Do I need to get 2 individual power connectors, one for the 6pin, one for the 8pin? or just use the Y splitter and have them both connected and taking power from the one 6pin at the other end?

Either one of the configurations should work.
I'm pretty sure 1 connector form the PSU can provide more than enough power for both a 6 and an 8 pin...(75 watts + 150 watts = 225watts I believe)

..... just plug one 6 pin and one 8 pin power connector from the psu into the card and be done with it allready.... you don't need any extenders/adapters/whatever since your psu allready has all the needed plugs...

I assume your worried your going to possibly put double the power to your card. Thats not the way electricity works in this case. No matter if you use two seperate connectors to the PSU you will always pull the same power from your PSU. by using seperate connectors you are pulling less power through the wires on each individual connector. If youir psu is rated high enough you have no problems. Most people never had problems, but then the card makers made some real energy hogs and people didn't have the correct psu's for them, WAY UNDERPOWERED. splitting and resplitting molex connectors to get something like this hooked up ,would lead to fail. But not one simple y connector as in this case.
