Based on some hardware comparisons I've seen online:

http://www.hwcompare.com/13361/geforce-gtx-295-vs-geforce-gtx-660/

It seems the GTX 295 is actually still better than many modern cards from the 6-series. Is the GTX 295 really better than the GTX 660? I currently have a GTX 650 Ti and I'll be upgrading to the GTX 660 very soon. How well is each card going to be able to run modern and next-gen games?

Also, if I ran two GTX 660's in a two way SLI, would that effectively future proof my system for next-gen games? Or would a quad-SLI (2x dual GPU) GTX 295 be better?

Everyone will tell you to use use hwcompare because it's 100% pure crap 🙂 The GTX660 will absolutely outperform the GTX295 in reality and you'll have 2GB memory instead of an effective 896MB. Stepping up from your GTX650 Ti should yield around 50% higher framerates. And it'll be ample for upcoming games even without SLI unless you need all the settings cranked up to maximum (which it can actually do smoothly in most games anyway). 4-way scaling with dual GTX295s is absolutely horrible anyway - GPUs of that generation will gain ~30% from the 3rd GPU and ~10% from the 4th.

Thanks! In the future, where should I go to find more info/comparisons for these GPU's if hwcompare is bad?

Right here! Tom's is an excellent source for benchmarks. Click that logo top left - Tom's isn't just a forum. Tech Spot is excellent, Tech Report is excellent, Tech Power Up is probably the best for summary charts that combine performance across a tonne of games into overall averages for fast comparisons. HardOCP have an alternative approach to benchmarking which some people feel has value. Avoid Anandtech - they're really sloppy when it comes to fair tests.

just read reviews from site like toms, techpowerup, the techrport and the like

GTX 660 SC has Direct X 11.1, it will run BF3 on Ultra preset with 55+FPS, If you SLI two GTX 660s, I assume You will run BF4 on High and maybe reach ultra at around 30 FPS. a single GTX 660 will probably run BF4 on medium or if its bottlenecked, low.
