off topic. did you use 2 sticks 3GB RAM or 3 sticks 2GB RAM? btw performance wise 5870 is better than 460. it all depends on how much you want to spend on a card

I use 3 2gb sticks ram.

Thanks for all the replies so far but is there any reason i shouldnt buy http://www.scan.co.uk/products/768mb-asus-gtx-460-top-3680mhz-gddr5-gpu-700mhz-shader-clock-1400mhz-336-cores-2xdl-dvi-mhdmi its a decent price and i dont want to spend a lot of money, but then if its not worth it i wont want to buy it either.

Thanks.

The 768MB GTX460 is noticeably worse. The GTX 5870 is better than every other card mentioned here (including the 470) and often by a wide margin. Keep your 8800 and use it to run PhysX while you game with the Radeon 5870.

Also, 2x2GB sticks and 4x2GB sticks are both better than 3x2GB sticks because they're dual channel.

My preference is actually the GTX 560. Crazy I know, but I am Nvidia biased. Also, from what I saw in a number of reviews, the 560 seemed to regualrly match or beat the 5870 for minimum FPS. Also, if you are an MMOer then it looks like the 560 was a clear winner.

But the sensible me would probably go with the 5870

For a single card setup i'd go 5870, however if you plan on adding another at a later date the 460sli actually beats the 5870xfire strangely. However bear in mind that I think the 460 is slightly stronger in DX11.

Minimum maybe, but the 5870 clearly wins out on Average frame rates. But if you exclusively play TWIMTBP titles, the 560 Ti has it beat.

The Achille's Heel of the 5800 series is poor DirectX 11 tesselation performance, whereas the GTX460 is better and also has PhysX.

That's true. IF something uses tessellation to the degree benchmarks do, NVidia cards do MUCH better. But we have yet to see many games favor NVidia cards considerably, if at all (outside of select TWIMTBP titles). The 5870 still wins on price/performance I think.

Then again, I have a GTX 470 in case tessellation ends up being big.

As long as I have over 30fps for games I am happy, personally min FPS is most important to me because average can hide some troublesome moments if a card at times is dropping significantly below 30 at times
