GTX 460 size question

Hello, I'll be upgrading my graphics card for my Dell Inspiron 530,
.
My concern is that the EVGA GTX 460 looks huge, and I'm not sure It'll fit in the case or on the motherboard.

Its a g33mo2, any advice?

It'll fit, you just won't be able to use that pci express x1 slot.

It will fit, one of my HTPC computers is one of those and i put a 8800 gtx in there which is about 4 inches bigger than a 460 gtx.

Even my system wont be able to run Battlefield 3 on maxed out on 1920 X 1080. I have a core i7 870, and a GTX 460.
By the way. what resolution you play games on? You can run it on medium settings on full HD resolution.
If your resolution is less, you can pray. They say, you need at least a GTX 580 to max out that game on 1920 X 1080. Thats pretty demanding.

From their official tests, a 460 will get about 28 fps maxed out at 1080p. So you may have to sacrifice a few settings.

Whoa I said high, not ultra settings. I believe high is one step up from medium. I'm trying to get fairly balanced graphics, though I would prefer a smooth frame rate.

i remember the worries I had about replacing a blown 8800 GT (I still have if anyone would like it, I cant see the damage but i havnt taken the cover off) with Ati HD 4870 in my Dell XPS 420 (mATX) - I remember getting some awesome help here and a member actually took some photos off his similar system showing how a GTS 260 was able to fit up against the side of the CPU cooler

I think the beta had low, medium and high settings, I might be wrong or was that just because I have GTX 460? (damn the beta has only been gone a day and I cant remember!) If so I suppose one could read high as ultra

if you have Q6600 or less it will likely struggle a bit when combined with 4GB RAM & GTX 460 - at least at 1920x1080 & high settings.

I had Q6600/4GB RAM/GTX 460 in above mentioned Dell XPS 420 mATX system and the GPU performance jumped up and temperatures shot down when I popped the card inside a new HAF-X case paired with I5-2500K and 8GB RAM

I don't know enough about CPU bottlenecking but found my Q6600 started to struggle, only a little mind you, Dell proprietary cooler working overtime, what are you precise specs?

had a little look around and folk appear to be playing bf3 beta on medium settings (1920x1080) and getting 30-50fps (depending precisely on what in game settings were used and the different system hardware), I can agree with that as I recently went from single GTX 460 to SLI and tried both with BF3 beta). although my single GTX 460 could do high settings at 30-40fps.

Is GTX 560 right to be considered an overclocked 460? In my system I ran single 460 anywhere from 815mhz (factory OC) up to 930mhz with msi afterburner/gigabyte OC guru, if so I'm glad I purchased another 460 at 140 GBP and didnt make the 560 sli jump for 300 GBP. money for my Asus D2X yay!

if your getting the GTX 460 might you think about a single GTX 560 instead? looking at ebuyer (uk) and newegg (US) last night - the price difference between some 460 & 560 was as little as 10 USD

I have a quad core q6600 at 2.4ghz and 4gb of ram.
I don't really care out high settings, as long as I can play on medium and have a good frame rate.

I have a secondary gaming rig with a Q6600 overclocked to 3.4ghz and a 5870 with 8 gigs of ddr2 800 ram and i got around 41 fps on ultra settings(very high locked) which is locked anyway till the game comes out.

the 460 will fit it will just probably go all the way to the front of your motherboard.
I know I have a GTX 460 in my system I use for CAD and IT work at my office, it will fit.
I used to have a HD 4870 but once I went Windows 7 some of my graphics heavy application got unstable. but popped in the GTX 460 it was the cheapest DirectX 11 Graphics card I could get at the time.

I just built a new gaming rig for my self that can handle any game I through at it with max settings at 1080p.
I spent just under $2,000 building it, still fighting threw the new system bugs, think I finally got them beat.
its specs are:

Processor: Intel Core i7 2600k (not over clocked yet but I will be buying a big old air cooler so I can overclock it)
MOBO: ASUS Sabertooth p67
RAM: 8GB Kingston Hyper X T1
Graphics: Gigabyte GTX 580( with modest factory overclocking right now)
HDD: 2 x Western Digital Velociraptor 600GB SATA III, 2 Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB SATA III ( I am thinking about replacing my velociraptors with SDD's when the price comes down on the 600GB drives so I can do a drop in replacement without resizing partitions.)
Case : Cooler Master HAF X Nvidia Edition
I might also go sli with a second 580 if I ever get the money for it as well.

from my own experiences and set up I would hope you'd be OK then, you have to bear in mind when I did beta with single GTX 460 my cpu was at 4.2GHz and I had 8GB RAM - also bear in mind my airflow is great throughout my case and GPU doesnt go over 60c - I probably got 40-90fps depending upon what map/section (inside or outside etc) on high settings so I think you'd be unlucky not to hit 30fps on high settings, you'd expect higher fps on medium settings

I tried several different clocks on the single GTX 460, mostly around 880/900MHz on the gpu core

do you know what clocks / OC capability come with your card - which exact model of 460?
what is your case air flow like? do you know what the temps are like in your case?
will your current PSU handle the new card? a real consideration - in the past I have had to upgrade a Dell XPS 420 PSU to support a video card upgrade

all in all, if it were a reference gtx 460 it should handle 1920x1080 medium settings, agreed folks?
