GTX 550Ti work on a 350w PSU?

Im planning on upgrading my GPU and i've been looking for a really long time for a new GPU and I found that a GTX 550Ti only need 1 6-pin plug for power and Im just asking if it is true and that it would work on a 350w PSU. Im not planning on upgrading my PSU so im asking for a really great GPU which would work on this king of PSU (350w)

The PC im using is a 'Dell Studio XPS 8100'

System Specs:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80 GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 6.00 GB
System Type: 64-bit Operating System
Hardrive: 1 TB
Current GPU: GeForce GT 240

It'll boot, but once you start playing games it is pretty much guaranteed that the system will shut down. Hopefully it won't end in destroying your PC.

Dropping to a Radeon 6850 might work because it only draws 130W at load.

I would say that for your computer you should go with a Radeon 5670 which would use about 14 more watts than your current 240, or drop down to a 5570 is you're worried about it. The limit I would even think about with that system would be a 5770/6770 or gts 450, though even then you would be pushing it considering the rest of the system would still pull a healthy 150W with that i7 at it's default clocks.

maybe just go for a GTS450 or HD 5770/6770. that will also gain your performance and you will not have to worry about power requirements.

The more you push your PSU to it's rated limit the hotter it's likely to run and the shorter it's life is likely to be. It's true that even with a 550 Ti that system will not likely beak 350W, but with simply an above average PSU you will likely shorten your systems lifespan. It's up to you though ^_^
