GTX 560 Ti (Compatible PSU)

Hi Guys,

I would just like to ask on what PSU is best suited for a GTX560 Ti Video Card? I would like to replace my current GPU. Or is it a bad idea?

Current PC Specs:
CPU = AMD Phenom X4 955 BE
PSU = Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 500W
RAM = 2x 2GB Kingston
GPU = Sapphire Radeon HD 6850
HDD = 500GB Seagate
ROM = LG CD/DVD Combo 16X
MON = LG 18.5 (E1941T) LCD, LED

Can you play your preferred games at the resolutions that you want with no performance issues? If the answer to that is yes, then stay with 6850; it is a great mid-priced GPU. If the answer is no, then evaluate your total system and verify if the bottleneck is the GPU or something else...the first thing I would look at is maybe a RAM upgrade to 8GB. You shouldn't be CPU limited with the 6850 and that CPU, but if you go with a much higher-end GPU, then there is the chance that you will become CPU bottlenecked....this will vary by game and you need to determine if the games that you want to lay are more CPU or GPU limited.

if you really want to a performance increase, i would buy another 6850 and run them in crossfire, but it would mean that you would need to upgrade to a higher wattage psu, preferably with two 6 pin power connectors.

The Coolermaster Extreme Power PSUs are absolutely craptastic and would definitely be the first thing that I would upgrade in that PC. The 500W can deliver its rated power, but it goes out of ATX specs and has horrible efficiency when it does it. Review: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/728

If you do upgrade your GPU, would you look at something other than the 560Ti. It's a great card, but Nvidia are likely to release the mid-range 6xx series successor to it very soon, and the AMD 7850 is also a mid-range card with a decent performance boost over it. Both of these GPUs are based on the 28nm process and will be more power efficient than the 560Ti.

I am planning on that also, if in case what PSU would you suggest Sir? I prefer something between 650 and 750 W.

To answer your question.....

I run a 560Ti overclocked, with my CPU also overclocked just fine on a Corsair 550w but I did buy a 650m tx so I could throw another in there.

For that card, anything 550w or higher from OZC, Corsair, Seagate, Antec will do just fine. I would recommend buy a little more PSU than you need with room for 2 more PCIe connections just incase you ever decide to SLI one day.

By the way, I love my 560Ti and would buy another in a heartbeat, and intend to when I expand my monitors. I run BF3 on High settings multiplayer with very smooth gameplay on a 1080 monitor. The MSI version runs very cool, very quiet, and its a short card, nice for smaller cases.

I've seen the Ti twin frozr go for as little as $180 on Amazon. Watch prices closely, they are all over the place right now.
