GTX 560 vs Radeon HD 6850 vs Radeon HD 6790

I am about to upgrade my old GPU the Geforce GT 220 1GB DDr3,,,,,, i was looking in the market nd i found so many options ,,,,,,,,

personally i perfer NVIDIA but it dosen't matter that much as long as the performance is better ,,,

Monitor : LG 22" Wide Screen so i usually plays at 1680x1050

For 180-ish, get a 6870 IMO. If you just want the cheapest, get a 6770 IMO. At that resolution, even the 6770 is plenty.

HD 6790 will give you really good FPS in low price...
otherwise go for 6870 or 6950 if you want to see the difference..

no out of the cards you listed the gtx 560 is definatley the fastest and it is what I'd recommend for baseline 16X10 gaming, it is on par with a 6870. Either (gtx 560 or 6870) would be ideal for decent 16X10 gaming. The 6850 will also do fine but imo the 6790 is a filler/fodder card that represent poor price/performance... better off with a 6770 if you need to be that cheap.

In the end get the gtx 560, or a ti model if you can afford it, and I like the ASUS DC2 and MSI twin frozr II models for the gtx 560. Overclock to high hell and you have yourself a gtx 570 level of performance (at least with a good ti model) but really the gtx 560 when oc'ed is not far behind and it can often crush a stock 6950, and given your res you will not benefit at all from a 2 GB frame buffer so imo the gtx 560 is the choice, with the 6870 as a second choice, but for the most part the 6870 is maxed out and will not yield as much of an oc as the 560 and 560ti.

As you can see the 6870 is superior but the GTX560 isn't far behind.It really comes down to what you would prefer and how much money you feel comfortable spending.As well as what type of gaming performance your looking to get out of the GPU upgrade.

yeah but the gtx 560 oc'ed vs the 6870 oc'ed id bet the gtx 560 would win so if the OP is not planning on ocing then get a 6870, if they are then a gtx 560 or ti model makes more sense imo

but dont get me wrong either at stock would be plenty for a 16X10 resolution imo I would just prefer the 560 if thats all my budget could permit... my 2 cents

I think the fact that a 6870 averages 60fps in bfbc2 at 16X10 in the above review gives a good picture of ideal performance from that range of card but you also have to consider then that your fps minimums will be in the high 30s likely which is not bad but you might want just a little more performance depending on what your expectations are

That sums it up I'd say, this is the questions the OP needs to answer for himself because either the 6870 or gtx 560 would make fine choices if that what the OPs max budget is etc

nice open box deals! id spring for the asus 560 the cooler on that card is amazing, i own one on a ti model. Get it fast before it sells out!!!! they go quick believe me!!! OP will regret it if they are truly in the market for either gpu

I would think since the performance is somewhat close the next step is crossfire/SLI scaling and performance.If the OP was planning to go that route.

yeah I can tell you first hand that crossfire 6870s work terribly, just had a pair in my system a week ago and all the same problems exist including obnoxious microstutter and flickering in BFBC2 and several other games. Ive never had an sli config before but Ive asked many users on here about their experiences and they all say that the microstuttering and inherent driver issues do not exist. I thoroughly tried to remedy the problems on my rig. Imo AMD treats the midrange crossfire customer as an absolute minority, the single card configs from AMD run fine but imo if you want dual gpus in the future you get the 560s over the 6870...

I can go on and on but most will gloss over the issues I had as if they didn't exists and that I am not a high enough tech level to figure out the issue which I guarantee you is not the case, just saying... not only were my components ample but I tweaked everything you possibly could to little improvement.

yeah thats what always happens, one time they had and msi oc cyclone pe R6850 for $126 that I was going to buy and by the time I decided to pull the trigger 30 seconds later it was sold out, they fly out of neweggs inventory, damn!

It isnt. But if you compare price and performance... 6790 is a good choice.. you wil get decent FPS..
there are some games with nvidia physx which dont like AMD cards...

The 6790 to me is a repeat of the 5830.Just a bad card.I mean it's a powerful card but for the power it requires I think their are better choices for the price.

I was wondering what type of card would be suitable for me. I have already per-ordered Battlefield 3 and Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3 to compare the two. (and to play of course) I do know that both games, especially Battlefield 3 are graphically intensive.

RAM : 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz Corsair Vengence
Hard Drive:300GB WD Velociraptor
Power Supply: Corsair TX 750w
Graphics: 2x Galaxy GTS 250 in SLI
Monitor: LG Flatron Widescreen 22" (current res. 1440x900 Digital In+put)

I am comparing two cards, a Galaxy GTX 560 and a Sapphire Radeon 6870. Both cards have 1GB of GDDR5 RAM, and both cost $165 and $170 respectively. I have done a ton of research on both cards head-to-head. My problem is that I cannot tell what card will be best suited for my needs. The 560 has better FPS, and has Nividia's Physx technology. Battlefield 3 makes extensive use of destructible environments, something that Physx plays a big role in. While the 6870 has slightly better scaling and tessellation. The 560 has great OC'ing abilities, but the 6870 has a bit higher threshold of tolerance for OC'ing.
Plus, the 6870 uses slightly less power than the 560.
