GTX 570 max out BF3 ULTRA?

Hi guys,

I've been having a tough time deciding whether I should pick up a GTX 560 Ti or wait it out a bit and get a GTX 570 when they are a bit cheaper around Christmas or January.

I want to be able to really enjoy BF3 on Ultra. I play at 1440x900. My processor is a Phenom II X4 OC'd to 3.7 Ghz.

Do you think the GTX 570 will be able to max out this game with decent frames at the resolution?

Absolutely. Even 1920 x 1080 will have no problem. Try also upgrade your monitor to 1080p. And why not give 6950 a shot? They are much cheaper than 570...

Well, in Canada it seems the 6950s are so close to the GTX 570 in price.

Maybe a 1GB 6950 is all I need, and then I can crossfire in the future?

EDIT: I could go for a larger monitor but I'm fine with my 1440x900 monitors for now and it would allow for smoother gameplay anyway. But if I got a 6950 I could possibly save up for a 1080p monitor too.

I think a single GTX560 Ti is more than enough to maxed out almost anything on 1440x900. What is your current card? PSU?

I just sold my Radeon 4890 1GB for $70, which is good because I can go without gaming for a few months and early in the new year if I have to.

I want to be able to really enjoy BF3 at this resolution.

My PSU is a Corsair 750 Watt and my budget for a GPU is <$300.

Your PSU is good even for dual cards setup, so don't worry about power. With GTX560 Ti you can maxed out any games at 1440x900 (I think).

lol.. I would save your money bud. The 560ti is ABSOLUTE overkill at this resolution. This card was meant to run games very smoothly at 1920x1080 resolutions. Hell, yours is actually two standards of resolutions lower!!

I would save yourself some money and get an HD 6870, which you can find for about $150 right now. Even this card is overkill for your resolution. It was meant to run games at over 60fps consistently at 1650x1080 resolution, which means it will absolutely kill anything you can throw at it.

Once again, get a cheap 6870 and you will not be disappointed and will also save some cash in the mean time.

At the moment BF3 seems to favor nvidia cards (560ti beats everything from AMD except from dual gpu 6990). So buying an amd card for BF3 shouldnt be a logic solution.
But, you should wait a bit (5-6days ) to see some real benchmarks. Then I believe you would be able to judge if a card can play smoothly BF3 at Ultra setttings or not.

Well yes but he is asking about BF3 and in BF3 560ti is superior (edit: at least for now till game release)

920 2.6 overclocked to 3.4, 6gb ddr3, 24" monitor, Gigabyte GTX 570 Super Overclocked Edition........running BF3 on Ultra settings and 1920x1200 res........over 100 FPS no sweat. So realistic it's scary.

Just upgraded from an ATI card that was struggling to get 45 FPS on High settings. I believe that its the Nvidea drivers because to almost triple my FPS without tripling the GPU points to software......IMHO.

On a side note......save and splurge on a low-end Xonar sound card. Just put one in and the game absolutely explodes now compared to my onboard sound w/ Soundmax.

i'd say go with a 570gtx...im running 3 in 3way sli on 3 asus 25" monitors at 5760x1080...and loving it.. :}

None that I am aware of. Honestly though, I haven't checked. After I saw the 3 fans and massive heatsink on the thing, I didn't really think a heating issue would ever come up.
