GTX 570 or 580 for a 1600 x 1200 monitor and Battlefield 3?

Hello,

I'm currently in the process of building a PC for Battlefield 3. I have a Samsung SyncMaster 204b monitor, 20 inches or so, with a max resolution of 1600 x 1200.

My question is, I'm trying to figure out if my monitor is good enough to justify buying a nvidia GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB or if a Geforce GTX 570 is plenty of card for BF3 and that monitor.

Money isn't quite an issue on this build. It's only an issue when I take into consideration buying a new monitor AND a GTX 580

The 570 should be fine.

Hawk is correct. A lot of people are able to handle decent fps with graphic options turned to high and even ultra on some things with a 570 in 1080p. Save the extra cash for a great monitor.

Thank you guys for the quick responses.

So if I'm looking to squeeze a lot out of BF3 on my PC, am I going to be disappointed with my monitor no matter what graphics card I have in there. It has to be 6 or 7 years now since I last built my old gaming PC so I'm not up to date on what a high resolution monitor is these days.

1080p is what I would say the standard is for most pc gamers today.

Of course you will have those who still use lower resolution monitors like you and me, and enthusiasts with triple monitor setups. And then there are people who argue 1920x1200 is a true pc gaming monitor and that 1080p is tv and console garbage. But a monitor that runs at that resolution usually costs a bit more, for an extra 20 pixels, so you decide if it's worth it...

Both are well more than enough for anything at 1600 x 1200. Keep in mind that for $410, two 560 Ti's (900MHz) will give ya 40% more fps than the $500 GTX 580..... At 1600 x 1200, I'd buy one now and meybe grab the 2nd when ya get a 1920 x 1200 monitor.

Fort me I always opt for the 1920 x 1200 ..... aside from the extra 120 pixels of real estate, my fav part is I can watch a movie or play a game at 1920 x 1080 ans still have a 120 pixel high band for a host of on screen tools.

I think I'm going to slap a 580 in there and then maybe around Christmas time have my girlfriend and parents go in on a high resolution monitor for me. I'm a film critic too so this setup is going to be used to watch Blu-rays too.

Nice find dirtyferret. I just wish they also benched 6850's in crossfire, since they have been shown to outperform the 570 in BFBC2...
