[SOLVED] GTX 570 problems

I recently bought a GTX 570 from CEX for about £20,
Thought i'd upgrade my ACER m5811, so it could run at least some modern-ish games.
This PC has a 500W (peak) power supply, from what I can ascertain that shouldn't be an issue with this card.
However when I insert it and start it up, The screen looks like this.
I've tried installing the latest nvidia drivers, but even on restart the computer doesn't seem to even register that it's a nvidia card in there.

Could this card just be fried, or is there something I'm missing?
Thanks

only things i can think of aside from it being fried would be to try reseating it, and maybe applying new thermal paste as it could be a heat issue but if its like that constantly i would say its simply dead

I've tried reseating, don't have any thermal paste. Doesn't seem to be getting too hot or anything though, the screen looks like this right from startup (boot screens and all)
It's going into a PCIE 2.0 on a socket1156 mobo, can't really think of anything else it could be.

Nvidia drivers install, computer restarts, boot screen still garbled, and when I get to the desktop, it just sees the card as unknown hardware still. Crazy.

Thanks though.
