GTX 570 vs. HD 6970

Hi all,

I've decided to take a tiny step down and purchase either a GTX 570 or HD 6970. I have also narrowed down my decision to these two cards:

Forgetting driver issues, which one would you purchase and why?

Like your rig mate. Got the 920 myself a gem of a cpu.

They are neck on neck. The 6970 is more to so call future proof with its 2gb of ram and paired in crossfire it outperforms the 580 sli at 5760/1280*1024. For 1080p the 570 is more than enough. It got less ram but how long do you intend to keep the gpu. More hungry for ram games we won't probably see after two gpus updates..

To put it ,ore simple. One monitor ->Gtx 570
If your planning on adding more monitors like 3x 1080p get the 6970 due to its better scaling at ultra high resolutions.

Grab a Toxic 6950 if you can. I just built a computer for my brother in law with this card. Sapphire loads the 6970 bios in the second switch. literally all you have to do is flip the switch.

even with the 6970 bios was able to OC to 925Mhz core and 1400Mhz

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies. I am going to see how Skyrim runs on my computer and if I want more performance then I will probably purchase a GTX 570.

I'll take the 570 over the 6970...

570 very quiet card compared to the 6970 both very good cards, because the 570 was cheaper i gone with it to replace my dead 4870x2.

The 5xx cards very quiet over the 6xxx line from what i used so far.

Not quiet by much:

Still a GTX 570 in the lower $300 range is a great buy and offers just as much performance as a HD 6970 in the higher $300 range.

I don't really care too much about noise; can't really hear the computer while playing games.

If I do purchase a GTX 570, it will probably be MSI's Twin Frozr III card.

+1 for the Sapphire toxic 6950. Bang for your buck at this performance point it wins hand down.

Otherwise (to the OP's original question) it's going to depend on what resolution your running, single monitor @ 1920x1080 get a 570, any plans to do multi-monitor or higher resolution then get a 6970. Also in terms of scalability if your looking to CF / SLI in the future the 6970 offers better value.

There won't be any SLi in the future because I will give the card to a friend and purchase a Kepler card.

I would definitely get the GTX 570 as Nvidia's DX11 tessellation is superior to AMDs. When you look at the benchmarks online especially in games like Hawx 2 in DX11 with tessellation on the difference is substantial.

If you are running at a high resolution or using multiple monitors you can always get the 2.5 GB version of the card.
