Hello, I have acomputer with 2 x GTX 580 GPU cards each with 2 x DVI-I connectors & 1 mini HDMI. A monitor I would like to buy - 27" 2560 x 1440 @ 60Hz only has 1 DVI-D Dual link connector, and states - will only work with DVI-D Dual link connector. Will my GPUs work with this monitor? to get 2560 x 1440 res @ 60Hz, Do i need a special cable (2 plugs to 1 ?). thanks for any help.

Solution
A DVI-D will work with a DVI-I but not the other way around. Both cards in SLI or only one card with one cable from the primary 580 to your monitor and your res is set to what you want.

That is it, even in SLI just the one cable from the primary 580 to the monitor will work. You don't need more cables or two cables that go into one. Doesn't work that way.

I hope this has helped you a little and Good luck to you on your new setup.

thanks to both responders, you were both correct, the -I and -D is a bit of a red herring - "dual link" is what's required and my 580's have 2 x dual-links. i bought the cheap Korean monitor - $360 and it works beautifully. 2560 x 1440 LED 6ms 60Hz.

Pity i cannot connect my 2 GPU cards to the one monitor and push the performance up, say from 60 Hz to 100Hz, although I don't really need it, my flight sim works flawlessly on one card.
