Hello,
My mate asked me to have a look at his computer, as it was having a few issues.
I quickly discovered his CPU was overheating as it was overclocked with the fan supplied, not only that but the CPU heat sink was covered in dust and so was the the GTX 580 heat sink. The computer would boot for about 5 seconds, turn off off and reboot. The RAM was stuffed and both sticks was running at 2GB each, instead of 4GB each. Tried in another computer and same issue so I replaced it.
I disconnected everything on the board systematically to isolate the boot issue and once I put it together it was fine. The PSU rails are steady, the only issue left is the gtx 580, as soon as I install any driver for it, the screen goes blank after the windows 7 boot screen. There is only one cable/monitor so it's not a dual output issue. I tried using HDMI instead of VGA and I get a messed up image. In windows 7, the device manager said it disable the card due to an un-specified issue.
I tried using the second PCIE-16x slot, No issues. It would be ideal except for the shared bandwidth issues and the fact it would only operate at 4x. Could it be the card or the motherboard? I don't have a spare card to try unfortunately.
