I came across a deal through a friend where I can get a gtx 580 1.5gb (evga SC) for $300, still in package. To me this seems like too good of a deal to pass up, but I just bought a 6870 when it first came out and spent close to $300 on that (with shipping and tax). I think I can get close to $150 or so for the used 6870, so the question is this: is it worth the $150 it will cost me to upgrade to the gtx 580? Thanks

system info: monitor-1920x1200
2500k, 8g ram, P67-UD3
850w psu

How happy are you with your current graphics performance?
If you want more, then the GTX580 is a great deal.
You could probably make money on the deal selling the GTX580 for >$400 on e-bay.

But, realize that there will be diminishing returns as you get closer to top end configurations.

Cool thanks, I think I'll grab it. I considered another 6870 in crossfire (that was the future plan when I bought my 6870), but for me that would be for multi-monitor and that will be a couple years away, and I didn't realize it at the time that you really want 2g vram cards for that anyways.
My card is surprisingly still selling for $234 (+tax) at my local shops so I think getting $150 for it isn't out of the question, but I'll find out soon enough.
