GTX 580 vs 2 6970 Radeon vs 2 GTX 570's

I'm trying to decide what to buy. I heard that the dual GTX 570's combined are equal to a GTX 580. I want to know if I should get 2 6970 Radeons or or 1 GTX 580 (buy another later), or 2 GTX 570's.

The games I will be playing are:

Battlefield 3
Skyrim
Crysis 2
Starwars Old Republic

From my understanding 570gtx and a hd6970 are only around 10 - 15% slower then a 580gtx. if u sli/cf them they will beat a 580 hands down! i would say out of all 3 cards the 570 is the best performance for you money but as for single card vs sli id say 580 becuase u could always sli another in future. Also what PSU, CPU do you have, also what resolution u playing at ?

I too would go with the 570. I simply prefer Nvidia due to drivers, but both companies are great. Honestly, I'd go with 1 GTX580 (that is depending how long you are going to buy it from now).

I own a Gtx480 (which is basically equivalent to the 570) and have managed clocks stable at the Gtx580 superclock clocks. Since it's a different card I can't say for sure but Guru3D got it higher with the mem. clock and less with the core. What I'm getting at is you can probably overclock the 570 if you want and it'll be near equal to the performance of a 580. Then there's the games that don't like SLI and you end up using a lower end card than the 580.

Personally I'd go for the 580 due to possibly getting another later. It's just all that to consider + your CPU and resolution/PSU to consider as Deeks said.

All those games you listed are coming out late this year so I would wait. Since rumors have it the mid-end 7000series will be hitting end of this year with the 7900series and GTX 600 coming Q1 of 2012. They will be bringing the 28nm structure so it will provide lower power consumption and hopefully heat dissipation.

A pair of 6950s does very well, especially for the cost....

and i go with this, a Pair pf 6950 beats a single GTX 580, a Pair pf 6950 beats 570s SLI in some benchmarks, a pair of 6970 beats GTX 580 and 570s in SLI.

Completely forgot about that. Yeah so far the HD 7000s should release the end of 2011 and Nvidia's 2012-2013. Nvidia is still sketchy with it. That is though if you have the hardware that can play all the games you want so you can wait it off.

Not an option here, so I don't see the point to bring that up (bragging much?). Anything below 1080p just needs one card to max out (few exceptions though). The GTX 570 is a great card and for just $320, it's a great deal. If you every plan on adding an extra monitor(s), then the 6970 with 2GB of VRAM will perform very well. A GTX 580 is a good card, but for $500 and a performance per dollar below 90% in comparisons, I wouldn't recommend it honestly. Or you can just wait till the HD 7000 series coming out this year not too long from now which based on the specs Tom's showed, will perform very well (some rumors say that a single high-end, single GPU HD 7000card will have performance equal to if not better than an HD 6990).
