gtx 600 series vs 700

Hi, my friend(has a gtx 680) keeps telling me that I am wrong for buying a gtx 770 and should have bought a gtx 680. He kerps saying that the 600 series is better. Please tell me the difference. I told him that the 770 outperforms the 680 in everything and he says that the benchmarks don't prove anything and the specs don't mean anything because nothing goes as it does on paper. He also saw some guy saying he had a problem overclocking his card and labeled the entire 700 series as bad overclockers. Please tell me the difference and help me convince him.

I said you can get a pre overclocked card and he said that it would overheat and would not listen to me when I said it has gpu boost 2.0 to help with that.

There's not much we can do to help you if your friend refuses to accept the facts. He's obviously jealous. You know you have a slightly better card and that's what counts. Enjoy your purchase and don't worry

Your friend probably thinks that the 680 being the top model for the 600 line should be compared to the 780 model. Many sites have said that the 770 is comparable to the 680 in performance.
Every month Tom'sHarware put out a review article called "The Best Graphics Cards for the Money" included in that article is the Hierarchy Chart which gives you a comparison of which cards are similar and which are better or higher ranked.

You can see by the chart that the 680 and the 770 are on the same level and you can further see that with each new model line the top model of each line is not on the same level as the previous line. The 580 is not at the same level as the 680 and the 480 is not at the same level as the 580 and so on.
Your friend is just jealous and you would see what he really thought if he was asked to swap his 680 for a 770 straight up.

Don't put too much stock in that chart though. According to the chart, the GTX260, GTX275 and GTX280 are the same. It's a very crude over-simplification of performance. Best to see TPU benchmark summaries like this:

Then you can put a real number on the difference. It's only a small difference here but it proves your GTX770 is faster.

why dont you just lend him your 770 and bechmark or test in game bencmark or check fps in game...then compare to his 680...just let the proof show it to him right or wrong...

This is their spec comparison at stock, so even without the overclock your cards specs are higher in every department, this doesn't always relate to live gaming results but in this case we know it does so .....

bc5 that chart seems to tally up with the specs anyway, the 770 is better but only by a bit, however better and newer is still better and newer.
