I am running GTX 660s in my system. Recently upgraded from a fx6300 to a i7-4790k.
However, my SLI doesn't work anymore.
Here's the tests I did:
- Run both cards individually on first slot - works fine
- Run SLI - Benchmark tests (Heaven & Valley) stop responding. Nvidia kernel mode driver crash, recover. Sometimes I have to force reset the system
- Run both cards individually on second pci-e slot - Same as above but happens much faster
- Run both cards on 3rd pci-e slot - Even worse than the above 2
- Tested ram sticks individually
- Tried the QWORD regedit thing. (Change TdrDelay to 8)
I've repeated this with older drivers and also with a different power supply.
I brought it into the store where I bought it but they won't replace it. They tested it with crossfire with benchmarks and games for several hours and it works perfectly fine.
That being said, my main suspect would be a faulty pci-e card but the technicians at the store got crossfire to run perfectly so that kinda rules it out I think.
My system:
Motherboard - MSI Z87 GD54 Gaming
CPU - i7-4790k
GPU - Asus OC GTX 660 x2
PSU - evga 750 G2
RAM - Gskill ripjaws x (2 x 4gb)
tl;dr
- GPU crashes when used in second or third pci-e slot/ SLI
- however crossfire works
