Hello guys, one question

Actually im using an HD 4400 for gaming, i want to buy a dedicated card, i was planning on buying a 7870, but a friend of mine is selling the EVGA GTX 660 SC 2GB DDR5 for just 90 bucks because hes buying a laptop now, should i buy that one? i mean that price its nice, but i dont know is there much difference btw the gtx660 or 7870

At a display resolution of 1920x1080 the performance of both the GTX 660 and the HD 7870 are the same.

If your display resolution is going to be above 1920x1080 then the HD 7870 has a slight performance advantage (i.e. 1%~2%).

If your display resolution is below 1920x1080 then the GTX 660 has a very slight performance advantage (i.e. ~1%).

Any performance differences of <10% wouldn't even be noticeable.

A new GTX 660 usually sells for $199 so if you're going to be paying only $90 for a used card it is a very good deal.

The games i will play are basically skyrim, crysis 3, assassins creed, ps2 emulator, some ps3 games like final fantasy, and mmos like Tera. which one would be better?

Is AnandTech's comparison using the Pitcairn or the Tahiti GPU version of the HD 7870?

The Tahiti GPU has 256 more shader units than the Pitcairn GPU.

I know the GTX 660 is noticeably slower than the Tahiti GPU version of the HD 7870.

The Pitcairn GPU version of the HD 7870 is closer to the GTX 660.

I'd say to go with the 660. While the 2 are very close in performance, the 660 is more efficient and runs cooler, and on less power. Not to mention, you don't currently have the 7870 lined up to buy at the same price. They're close enough that buying when you have the advantage is very worthwhile.

I actually do not find that to be posted anywhere, not to say it's not true but I see no reason to believe that is the 7870xt

7870 can be found for the same price on ebay

again I would buy the 660 but that is personal preference but the 7870 is indeed more powerful.

AnandTech's drop down list for selecting the graphics card model doesn't make any distinction between the Pitcairn And Tahiti LE models and yet there is a noticeable performance difference between the two. The Tahiti LE model is the one to get if there is a choice between the two and the price of each are the same.
