I'm buying a new PC very soon, and I can't decide on which GPU to get. My main question is;
- What's the difference between the Gigabyte's OC version and MSI's Gaming version of the GTX 660 card?

I know they cost almost the same, but the MSI costs a little bit more. Is there a performance difference or is it just the brand name that gives it value?

Also, my specs for my new PC are:
CPU: i5 4670 @3,40 GHz
ATX: Gigabyte G1 Sniper B5
GPU: Depends on your answer 😀
RAM: 2x4 DDR3 Kingston HyperX @1600MHz
HDD: 500GB Seagate SATA3 16MB ST500DM002 Barracuda
PSU: LCPower LC600H-12 600W
Case: Thermaltake Versa II - (I know it's not the best case, but it works because I live in a hot area and I need the case to be a bit open so it has air flowing trough).
DVD: DVD+-RW Asus DRW-24F1ST
Monitor: LG 22" 22EN33S-B
- Keyboard, mouse and speakers for a few more dollars, nothing serious.

All for around $975.
Any suggestions on the build? Keep in mind this is my first build and I have a very limited budget ^^

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

First of all, let me tell you some things:

- That is a fantastic CPU for the money and you will love it!
- The motherboard is not so good... If you want to take your CPU and other components to their max efficiency, you will probably want to get a Z87 mobo. ASUS, ASROCK and GIGABYTE are relly good manufacturers and I would reccomend you to get the ASRock Z87 Pro3 (less money and better perfomance).
- The RAM is a good choice. However, I would go with a GSKILL Ripjaws X (2x4 1600Mhz CL9). It has great performance and a nice look!
- The HDD is a very important component, as it will store all the information in your computer... because of that, you might want to look for a WD Caviar Blue 1TB 7200rpm 64MB.
- The PSU you have chosen has a really bad look and lot of negative reviews... :/ So you should go for something from a well known brand like Corsair, EVGA, Cooler Master, XFX.... In my opinion go with the CX600w from Corsair.
- Go with the Zalman Z12 Plus case.

Now, answering to your main question, go with the one that is cheaper. However, with the build I made for you, you can still go with the card above: GTX 660ti. Now, if you want to choose a 660ti, you might want to choose the ASUS or the MSI cards, due to the fact that they have really good performance, build quality, and price.

Thank you for replaying. After some further research I found out that the LCPower is not really a reliable PSU. So I made some changes and I think it's fine now. I chose the MSI version of the GPU because for some reason the price dropped today, which is oddly convenient 😀
HDD in my opinion is fine for me at the moment. My father will give me another 250GB HDD from his PC because he doesn't need it, so I'm fine on storage, for now.

Here's the final build:
CPU: Intel Core i5-4670
GPU: GeForce GTX660 MSI GAMING 2GB DDR5
ATX: ASRock Z87 Pro3
RAM: DIMM DDR3 8GB (2x4GB kit) 1600MHz KHX1600C9D3B1K2/8GX HyperX Blu
HDD: 500GB 3.5" SATA III 32MB 7.200rpm DT01ACA050
PSU: Chieftec GPS-600A8, 600W
Case: Thermaltake Versa II Black Edition
DVD: DVD+-RW Asus DRW-24F1ST
Monitor: LG 21.5" 22EN33S-B LED

At the moment it's around 725€ here where I live, with mouse, keyboard and speakers.
I couldn't find a better case, since my budget is limited and there isn't much of a choice to pick from. I will upgrade in the future for sure, but for now I guess this will do. Thank you for your help and for opening my eyes ^^

So you are not going with the 660ti?

Yea, I'm not. At the moment I don't have the money but I'll upgrade later down the road ^^
I think the normal GTX660 will be enough for the next 2-3 years. It's a good card, and I'm not that crazy about ultra graphics. So yea, I'm fine for now ^^

OK!
I am glad I helped you!
(If you do not mind... could you please select my answer as "Best Answer"? 😉 )
Thank you very much,
