**Included more info on whats happening on my last post.**
Hey guys, I thought I had made an account here before but apparently I've just been reading off in the shadows for years. I guess its about time I joined up since I have something going on that I don't think I should be having a problem with.
Basically, I recently decided it was time for a new video card. I had a GTS 250 for years and hardly had problems playing any games. I studied up on what my next upgrade should be, and it seemed like the 660 was the logical choice. But now I'm having trouble with a few things, and need some insight.
System specs:
Gigabyte 790X-UD4P
AMD Phenom X4 920 2.8ghz
4gb GSkill DDR2-800
eVGA GTX 660 SC
Enermax Liberty 500w
Windows 7 64b
2x SATA HDD.
1 IDE DVD drive
I know, I have some old stuff in here.
After putting the new card in, my screen will go black after an initial start up when its cold. It will go through BIOS and the Windows Loading screen will come up, then it goes black. Restart, and its fine. Also, all my games now have stuttering issues, no matter how high or low the graphics are. Far Cry 3 runs the same on lowest settings or highest settings, and my GTS ran smoother in all truth on high. Batman AC crashes repeatedly. Even frickin WoW lags.
All my temps stay below 50C, and from what I can see with the programs I have, none of my voltages are out of spec. 12v is within .3v. I was thinking the PSU isn't handling the card. It is supposed to be 5w less pull that the GTS, but I also didn't think about it being super clocked either.
I figure I have a major bottleneck somewhere, so please say so if that's the case. I figure the DDR2-800 isn't helping, but I don't know how much of an upgrade going to a x4 965 would be, and I have no choice with this mobo for memory. Its only DDR2. I don't have money for a full overhaul on the mobo components right now, but I won't mind some suggestions.
