GTX 660 SLI

First of all I am new to this community, and I would like to say hi to everyone. This is my first post so please bare with me. I have been building my new gaming computer rig, and I have had a few questions in mind, this is one of them. I have seen some benchmark, and it seems that many people say GTX 680 can handle BF3 5760x1080p with some settings turn off (MSAA etc). Here is my question, can my GTX 660 SLI handle games BF3, at 5760x1080 with med/high settings and still have 40+fps? According to benchmarks GTX 660Sli is faster than GTX 680. I am not looking to do it all the time, I just want to do it for fun once in a while, maybe 1 hour a day etc. Also I am not a graphic type of a person, I choose fps over graphic. I usually try keep my fps above 60, but I also try to keep my game settings above medium, high if possible. I am planning to upgrade to crossfire 7970ghz edition later on, Black Friday most likely. But I was just wondering about my GTX 660 SLI.

i7 3770k OC 4.0
16gb 1600 ripjaw ram
MSI LGA 1155 intel motherboard
Rosewill 1000w 80plus certified
NZXT phamtom case
2x 23.6VS Asus, and 120hz 23.6 Acer

If your planning on waiting till Black Friday then it would just be better to wait for the 700/8000 series GPU's. No point in spending all that money now when there scheduled to release in Q1-Q2 of this year.

Don't wait for new series as they will be overpriced just get what you can afford now otherwise you will just be always waiting to upgrade. If I may suggest to just stay on one monitor HD+ it's much better than 3 screens.

should give you some idea of the SLI performance given that 680s in SLI barely hang in there with MSAA. On the other hand there have been driver optimizations since this was written.

I'd think you could at least swing medium, maybe even high.

Easy tip here for BF3 performance: Turn MSAA off and Antialiasing Post to High (this is nvidia FXAA). If you need a little more juice, set Ambient Occlusion to SSAO.

Don't need to compare price/performance with the next new series of cards here I will tell the future. New cards will be a little bit faster and cost more to the point of being really overpriced. Get current series now as they are at the proper pricing particularly AMD and not pumped up brand new pricing.

FXAA is extreme fail as it fixes some aliasing at the cost of reducing the quality and sharpness of the image. Not a trade off that I am willing to accept.

Well, Tom, that is your call but I was providing options to the OP.

I changed it on my system with a 1080p 21.5" monitor and it can't tell the difference visually. What I can tell is that I went from wild fluctuations in adaptive vsync to rock stable 60 fps and my GPU fan is much quieter.

That is a trade off I am willing to accept.

by the sound of th OP, you already have the gtx660 sli? if so, why are you asking the question and not just trying it for yourself? I can tell you vram might be a problem in bf3 and reducing texture detail to medium and lowering draw distance will help at that resolution.

The 680 released at MSRP $499 its still about the same price now, granted it will lower when the 700 series cards come out, but what he can buy a 680 for now he could buy a 780 for at the same price. So like I said, wait till the new series GPU's come out.

I already have SLI and 2 screens, but I am planning to get a 23.6 Acer 120hz. Sorry didn't mention that part.

It seems people may be confused because of my question. I am wondering if my 660SLI will be able to run BF3 at 5760x1080p at med/high with 40+fps. I currently already have to SLI set up, but planning to get the third monitor. If it can't handle 5760x1080p then there will be no point to me to get the monitor right now. If that is the case I'll just wait until I can afford 2 new GFX and a monitor to buy it at once, which will be most likely Black Friday, because that seems to be the best time everything go on sale.

Playing BF3 on 3 screens is an awesome experience. Once I did it I couldn't go back to one screen with this particular game. Yes two 660's would run high settings at a fps of 50 or above. I'm basing it of the fact I'm running 2 560's with my settings on medium and I get about 50-60 fps at 6070 x1080p (bezel corrected).

Correction to earlier - Antialiasing Post is nVidia's TXAA - that on high = 8X MSAA (some say 4X MSAA) with much less performance hit.

660Ti's in SLi are just fine and dandy.
