No, I believe they have to be the exact same model. It can be a different company, but not a different card all together.

Crossfire however will allow you to use two different cards, but they have to be in the same series, and it will downclock the higher powered card to match the lower powered one.

I don't know what your MB is. But if it has a PCI X16 slot, either card will work. However, they will not work in SLI. Why would you think it would "kill" your MB?

I already returned one card. My 660 ti is less than a year old. I purchased a new mobo this afternoon and it is receiving power. So I think somehow the old mobo died.
It is a asrock extreme z77
