GTX 660 System Powering Off

Hi,

My system is cutting out when gaming, its not exclusive to temperature as it has ranged from 56c to 71c though the higher end is usually when it occurs.

It just simply cuts off, however the blue powered light does remain indicated but all components do seem to power off. This only seems to happen whilst gaming and mainly on Space Engineers.

I have a 650w PSU with 12v rail that supports 32AMPS.

Its a GTX 660 2GB
AMD 8320
2 x 8gb 1600 DDR3
m.2 SSD
3.5 7200 HDD
DVD Drive
Card Bay

Any suggestions trying to solve the issue.

Hello... let's see what the OS is reporting for the errors... Right click computer-manage-Windows logs-system.... look for recent events and files/drivers/Apps/comments/suggestions associated with them B )

1) Open up the case and Look for blocked air/cooling/dust/lint/fans/etc.

Hi, I've had a look in the event logs and nothing in them points to an issue or even shows build up the failure.

System reports normal usage and then cuts out with the next log stating there was an unexpected shutdown

No a single spec of dust or lint at the moment and fans seem to have a normal flow of air one exhaust one intake.

Hello... If no system errors and "un-expected shutdown" report... You have a Power supply, wiring, connector, outlet, power cable to PS, ? problem... the OS shut down without going through the "normal" software procedure method.

My thinking was also a PSU based issue, it did feel a little hot on the touch. And seems to happen when the temp and load was rasiing on the GPU

Any suggestion on replacing? a GTX 660 should need that much power surely?

Well there are different "tier' levels of quality/rated components... according to TH Staff/moderators/articles... things too consider are operating (room) temperature... as heat/temperature is directly related to the lifetime of a electronic device... And I consider future upgrades and using it for many years with other systems... And there are BAD production runs from time to time... stating that B )

I would consider 'sorting" the 501-600 watt list first... by 'reviews" and send us/me back the UNITs of interest to you B )
