GTX 660 (ti) vs. Radeon HD 7950

Hi there.

I'm looking for a new graphics card and i'm in a bit of trouble. I can't decide which one to choose.
I have listed it down to either the GTX 660 or the ti version or the Radeon HD 7950.
So i would like your oppinion in what card to choose and which version of it (Vapor-x, Frozr III, like that) would be the best to choose

7950 after 13.2 competes with the GTX670. Also, it's a similar price to the GTX660Ti.

The best one is the sapphire 7950 Dual-x, only 270 dollars. And great VRM cooling for overvolting should you desire. Great Overclocking too.

I'd avoid the Vapor-X or Any of the XFX models, XFX makes good 7970 but their 7950 is sub-par and cheap, and the Vapor-X is worse than the Dual-X for more money.

I understand why not that XFX models, but is the Vapor-x really that bad? And i just found a "flex" model. Anything you have experience with??

I also just read about the HD 7870 XT model, it should be very powerfull. But is the Dual-x (boost version) better than the 7870 XT?

All Flex is is a higher memory clock(high resolution/multimonitor) and the ability to support 5(surround) concurrent displays rather than 4. If that's worth 30 extra bucks, it's the exact same otherwise.

Vapor-X is actually worse than the Dual-X because Sapphire did some major cost cutting on the 7950 model, the 7970 model is superb though.

Yes the Boost is better than the 7870XT/7930, however the 7870XT can overclock to 7950 stock level and the 7950 can overclock to 7970 stock level.

Hmm okay so then it would be worth the bucks to take the 7950 Dual-x (isn't it also called "Boost"?) instead of the 7870 XT?

vapor-x is a mixed bag compared to the normal varient because
a) some are voltage locked
b) some of the 7950s sapphire makes was placed on a 7970 PCB, making it a better clocker


edit: the specific 7950 in question with a better pcb. 7950's with a 6+8 pin power are generally ripped from 7970s. it s 950 mhz edition which is more or less discontinued

AMD has been having problems with frame latency. They have tried to address the issue in recent driver updates. It's worth it to check out these articles not sure what to believe myself lol anyway here

Both cards are pretty much toe to toe, with some games better optimized for the GTX 660 Ti and some games better optimized for the Radeon HD 7950 so it'll depend on the games you play. I'd recommend looking up some benchmarks on the specific games you play, but overall either way is a good choice and either way you should be able to play all of today's games at high/ultra settings at 1080p.I'd actually recommend Sapphire's HD 7950 Vapor-X comes with a large dual-fan cooler that uses the company's famous vapor-chamber technology. On the Vapor-X you will also find a "Lethal Boost" button which switches to a second BIOS with higher clock speeds. With this BIOS, clocks are increased to 950 MHz GPU and 1250 MHz memory.I bought one for my son and hes had no issues i can't speak for others though.If you prefer NV the GTX 660 Ti provides top notch performance with extremely high efficiency, so you’re guaranteed to be getting a ton of performance without a lot of energy or creating a lot of heat either. With MSI’s Power Edition GTX 660 Ti, you’re also getting MSI’s legendary Twin Frozr IV cooler, which will provide excellent cooling along with MSI’s triple overvoltage design that allows you to do a little overclocking to improve performance if you’re feeling adventurous.

7950is way better then 660ti so take out 660 from the list

Sapphire dual x should be the one for you since its cheaper and better!

I am myself using a vapor x which is better but the price difference is unfair

Hmmm... i do not know anything about what issues others are having i can only say my son doesn't have any issues wth his thankfully.The dual X is not a bad choice either though

Perhaps some has just been unlucky. But i'm just gonna play it safe and go with the Dual-x, although i would really like the vapor-x and it's great looks

Yeah i think so anyway the dual-x is a decent card so either way enjoy!

I actually have a Sapphire 7950 Dual-X and I love it. Mine is not voltage locked and have achieved 110% stable OCs of 1100 MHz Core and 1500MHz Mem while seeeing little to no temperature increase. I can push it even farther with a slight Voltage increase but there is no need to.
