GTX 660 ti: Worth the extra $70?

I'm just debating now (after almost being certain on the 660 non-ti) whether or not I will get much better performance with the -ti version. It's $70 more but the clock speed is decreased to 915 MHz instead of the 1046 that the normal 660 has. I also read somewhere that the -ti has a better GPU built in, but it's partially deactivated. The only thing the -ti has going for it IMO is the extra 384 CUDA cores (which CUDA-enabled software should like better.) What do you guys think? I haven't disregarded the idea of a regular 660, either. May have to go with that one in the end...Save myself $70.

Oh and if you're wondering, I'm only running a single 1080p monitor and my CPU is an i5-3570k at stock.

dont know if its deactivated but the 1440 cuda cores are simply too much on a 192 bit bus so they are bottlenecking each other and thats why it has only 5-10% more fps in games than 660. best way is to buy a factory oc 660, you can see my fps in my sig

There isn't a huge jump in performance between the two, the 660 will play pretty much any game you throw at it on high.

I was wondering about that dumb 192-bit memory bus. It sucks that even AMD's cards in that price range all have at least 256 or 384-bit buses, but their memory clocks are slow. And no, no, no, I WON'T be talked into getting a Radeon!

i red here and there that 7xx series is going to have 384bus on 770 so 760 might get to be 256. so maybe you could wait 6 months till 760 hits the shelves

I don't think I can wait 6 more months! My i5 is bottlenecked so bad by a GT 430 that I can't play any games on a resolution more than 1024*768 and on low settings. Yes, it sucks.

If you can afford the extra $70 do it. Otherwise just get the 660 and live with that, either way its better then what you got.

I'd say just get the plain 660 and spend the extra $70 on something else. The difference between the two cards does not justify the extra expense, and really, any game that the plain 660 struggles with, the 660Ti will also struggle with, so spending the extra money is won't really make your system anymore "futureproof" or more capable of playing the latest games.

well worth it it uses the higher end gpu than the 660 unlike the old 560 and 560ti

Just go for the 660. Next Generation Nvidia cards will be released pretty soon so it might be a bad idea to spend more for the 660 Ti

This is why im going 770. I mean my 660ti is doing ok but i do want a fuller gpu next time around
