so i just got a gtx 660 from a friend for $120 plus a corsair tx850 and im wondering if im am having a cpu bottleneck i have a core 2 quad q9550 overclocked to 3.4ghz and i havent seen much of a performance increase in games when in i should because the gtx 660 is more powerful than the gtx 750 1gb and i do plan on upgrading to a newer socket soon i was just wondering if i was experiencing a cpu bottleneck

Full Specs
core 2 quad q9550 @3.4ghz

Solution
The GTX660 is only about 16% more powerful, and if you overclock the GT750 (which should overclock better) the difference might be only about 10%.

There is probably a CPU bottleneck as well, though the amount varies a lot between games.

*So YES you will improve your games performance but the amount will vary from MINOR to perhaps 50% improvement for a few titles like Starcraft 2 (during heavy battles for example).

SKYLAKE would be the best choice. Something like:

i5-6600K
suitable Z170 motherboard
16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 2666MHz C15

W10 Home 64-bit
etc

Here's an example of bad CPU bottleneck (the SC2 engine uses two threads only):
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-processor-frame-rate-performance,3427-8.html

Your CPU sits below the FX-4300 (about 85%).

For this game (which again is not common CPU usage) you may get as high as 2X the improvement during heavy battles such as 30FPS now and 60FPS later.

Other games like Tomb Raider (2013 version) are much less CPU constrained. You probably would gain about 20%.

FALLOUT 4 also is very constrained on the CPU (crappy older game engine with too much stuff tacked on). There have been IMPROVEMENTS to the engine since release but there is only so much they can do. Here's an older benchmark->
http://www.gamersnexus.net/game-bench/2182-fallout-4-cpu-benchmark-huge-performance-difference

You'd get over 2X the performance improvement in this game too likely.
