Gtx 660ti over clock or gtx 670

I am getting an new graphics card but i don't know which one to get the gtx 670 just the normal one or a overclocked 3 GB gtx 660ti they are about same in price well at least here in Australia. Any response will be greatly appreciated. also my PC is running Intel i5 with 8GB of ram.

Well the 660ti with 3GB is a good idea IMO try and go with the best EVGA GTX 660 TI FTW+ 3GB GDDR5 W/Backplate.

No. Get the GTX670. If they're both the costs quite similar then why would you choose the slower one? Might as well get the GTX670.

2GB vs 3GB VRAM really doesn't matter much especially if you're gaming at 1080p and/or lower.

The 660ti FTW+ is so marginally slower it makes no difference in practice. That being said the EVGA FTW+ cards are the cream of the Crop.

I still disagree. Your point could be considered if the 660ti is significantly cheaper than the GTX670 but OP states that they're both around the same price. In this case it is better to get the GTX670, it is the better GPU overall.

670, the bus on the 660ti can only get you so far, and thats something you cant really help when comparing the two directly.

Also 3GB on a 660Ti is pointless, the thing already has memory problems with its 192bit memory bus, more VRAM doesn't help that.

At Australian prices, better off with AMD. A Gigabyte 670 and 7970 cost the same, and the 7970 performs better.

LOL the BOTTLENECK is what he is referring to. 192bit memory interface??? You know that thing that is a fact and can not be PROVEN wrong...

True at 1080p, but if your getting additional VRAM over stock than its presumed you will be playing at a large resolution.

As the resolution increases you can see the 660Ti losing ground to the 7950. In the 1280x900 bench it outperforms a 7950 by 5%, so the GPU itself isn't the issue. That only leaves the memory side of performance, and the glaring fault of the 660Ti is the memory bus.

EDIT: Just remembered, the 660ti is actually just the 670 with a smaller memory bus. Same GPU and same VRAM under the hood.
The performance difference between the 660ti and 670 is a direct impact of the smaller bus (and slightly lower stock clocks).

Ima have to agree people say after 1.5GB of ram on the 660ti it slows down which is false but i do agree the 670 is the better card. I own the 660ti my self and im looking to upgrade to a 780 when they drop

its hardware wise true anandtech made a picture example of how physically it happens as a 192 bus cannot split 2gb vram evenly. how much speed it loses isnt recorded, but regardless is slower than if the bus were full.

Yea i know about the vid what people was saying was you get 48 Gb/s at the last 512MB of ram which from my experience i dont see it being true and i get no performance loss
