Hi,

I have problem with my new graphic card and don't know if it is driver issue or if it is defective graphic card or some other component is bottleneck ? Can you please help me?

My PC
CPU: AMD Phenom II 1090T 3,2 GHz (is bottleneck?)
MB: ASUS M4N68T updated BIOS few days
GPU: MSI N670GTX-PM2D2GD5/OC installed 301.42 WHQL drivers and also tried older drivers from CD
PSU: Corsair TX650-V2 (is it enough? )
Case: Coolermaster CM690 Dominator II
RAM: Kingston DDR3 HyperX 1600MHz 2x2GB +2x4GB
Monitor: LG W2242SM connected by VGA adapter (playing on 1680x1050)

My problem is:
In games like battlefield 2, Crysis 2, ArmaII, Alice Madness Returns, Dragon age, Skyrim my fps drops very often.
For example in Battlefield 3 (Gulf of Oman) I start game with 80fps (setting: ULTRA 1680x1050) and after 2 minutes fps drop to about 30-20 or even 17 fps. I first thought it was only big scene with many details but when i stayed in same place about 1 minute it returned to 75fps but scene was still same.
I tried:
- Change details to High - even worse , Medium and Low - still remain,
- Turn off- blur, v-sync - problem still remains
- turn off anti aliasing - Problem remains
- in nvidia control panel turn v-sync off and power management set to maximum performence, in windows too
- re install drivers - clean installation ( i try all drivers available from MSI site and Nvidia too
- Re install windows (windows 7 professional 64-bit)
- uninstall MSI afterburner, than install newer one.

I took screenshot from MSI afterburner where you can see huge GPU usage drop in game.

Alright this may be simple fix.

1. You gotta clock that 1090t up as high, cool, and stable as you can just to rule out that factor.

2. You card is WAY too damn hot! 83c

Dynamic clock is dependent on if the card stays cool. The card will actually downclock when it is too hot.

So overclock that 1090t. Set a fan curve to that your card never gets to that point or you may have to run at 100%. Hows your air flow into your case?

So if we can rule out that the 1090t is holding it back or the card is just too hot, then we can move into the card being a dud.

Case has 2 fans for now. Front and back.
I increase fan speed to 100%. Frame drops are still remaining. In that moment temperature of GPU was 58°C.
I think that max temperature was caused by Fur Mark (no frame drops in test) used before Battlefield 3 . In game, temperature is max about 75°C.

Overclocking of processor is not my specialty and I don't know how to do it on this motherboard yet but I try to find some tutorials.

in battlefield 3 you wont feel the difference with the overclock since is a game that takes advantage of all the cores, so your problem must be something else, try uninstalling the drivers, run driver sweeper to clean everything and install again. your temperatures are a bit high for that card so try opening the side panel when playing and see how it goes

I hope this screen shots will solve question about temperatures.

This is screenshot of CPU temperatures with prime95 (Max 40°C)

This is screenshot of CPU temperatures with 3Ds Max rendering (max 45°C). I think processor is good because I am using it long time and it worked flawless all the time.

This graphs are from BF3 gameplay. Temperature of graphic card max. 68°C, fan 100%, BIG fps drops like mountains. :??: In the end of FPS graph you can see long stable low fps and then shorter stable high fps. In that time I did not move in the game. It means it was same scene all the time.

Yes I tried all available drivers and it was always clean install. Some people from Nvidia said it should be released in late June.
Yesterday I tried overclocking CPU but problems remains.

Sorry I deleted sentence. I mean -I am waiting for next drivers which should be released this month.

Next I tried precisionX than afterburner and then expert tool to little overclock GPU core but it did not help. Next I tried to set original frequency of stock GTX 670 but still in same scene in battlefield3 60fps...30fps....60fps...30fps.

Max GPU temp is 97C per NVIDIA spec

The Kepler chip will throttle at 70C and 80C in 13mhz increments which won't affect performance that much (1-2fps loss).

If the card gets to a point where it decides it is too hot (97c) it has built in thermal protection that will really throttle itself, not just downclock a little, at 83c it shouldn't be doing this.

I don't GPU temps are causing the problem.

Many have repported this error. Hapen to myself but after the FPS loss my driver crash. The 670gtx drivers seem to be really buggy I just asked for a refund myself on my 2x 670gtx and just ordered 2x 680gtx instead.

Roll back to the R300 beta drivers from the beginning of May. They are much better then the recent garbage that was handed out.

Thanks everyone for help.

I went to shop to complain. They took this card and send me new one. If this do not help I give it back and I will take maybe GTX 580 or something from AMD.

New graphic card arrived and fps drops are still here. But I find out something. When I run Kombustor about 10 minutes I get this

No fps drops. It means graphic card is OK?
Can it be something else. CPU, RAM, MB, or PSU ? Or I should wait for another drivers?

All the games you are playing are all cpu heavy.BF3 is extremely cpu heavy in MP.Can you try bf3 SP and report frames? You cpu is really bottenecking at that res.Did you try the new beta driver?

This is from BF3 SP Ultra, CPU oc profile 7% , 3,4Ghz,
Core clock is stable but gpu usage drop down and fps too. But it is better than MP because minimum is about 40 fps.

I think it is processor.
This is from running unigine heaven about 20 minutes on everything max. (33fps)

Absolutely no fps drops.

Same problem here, bought GTX 670 two days ago, random major frame drops in Space Marine, GTA IV, Streetfighter X Taken (probably any game, didn't test anything else yet) even aero gets auto disabled by windows.

CPU: Core i5 2500k
MB: ASUS Z68Vpro
GPU: Gainward GTX 670 refrence design ( Driver 301.42)
PSU: 900W Termaltake
RAM: G Skill 2x4 DDR 1600 9.9.9.24

it's not the CPU that I'm sure of it.

Edit:

take a look at this:

Usually frame drops are overheating of a bad PSU.

If your PSU brand is less than reputable perhaps try another PSU. I always use Corsair in my builds.

Also when I got my 670 I was getting TERRIBLE 3dmark scores. I realized this was due to the fans being on the lowest setting and the card under-clocking itself due to heat. I now run the fans at max and my scores went up significantly! Try maxing your fans and see if you still have issues. Most manufactures offer some sort of tuning tool for download.
