The GTx 670 is a better deal they are roughly the same performance.

it really depends

Hers toms newly made benchmarks for the 7970 ghz edition using the 12.7 beta drivers

the 7970 now approaches the 680 and beats it in other occasions as well post 12.7 drivers. but tbh, i think the 670 is the better buy due to it being cheaper, UNLESS you decide to play at ridiculously high resolutions or play on multiple screens, which amds vram would fulfill which some 670 models cant do as well.

I was looking at the Sapphire 7970 3gb for 449.99. Is this good to OC or wait for manufactures to start shipping the ghz edition.

the problem with the ghz edition overclocks the same level as a normal 7970, except it costs more. theres no real benefit from getting a ghz edition and a 7970 beforehand until like toms said, when they start shipping off the better pcb for the 7970 leaving the newly built original 7970's to use whats left over.

Well I just want to be able to play all games on max and not worry about it for a while. I might use three monitors down the road like two years. so would you recommend just buying the gtx 670 even though the 7970 is 30 dollars more. Moneys not an issue.
I aslo have a Intel i5 3570k if that matters.

it depends, in my opinion nvidia has more to offer, with their adaptive vsync and their 3d surround. the gtx670 is a good card, and the 7970 is a good card, iv had countless driver issues with ati, but only 1 that i can remember for nvidia (building pc's is part of my business) if i was you i would go for nvidia on this one, because the 7970 is ati's top dog, while the gtx 670 is within 5-0% of peformance (either way) it is nvidia right hand to the king (gtx 680). also 670 draws less power. therefore per watt, the gtx670 is about 20%-30% faster. but if your a ati fan then stick with them, there is no right or wrong

Get the 7970, its really a better card, better built, higher quality product and faster on later games. Firstly the extra power draw isn't huge and the 7970 is still vastly more efficient than the generation before it. The 384 bit memory bus and 3GB VRAM is going to matter more on more in future games that utilize DirectX 11 to greater extent. You want to be as future proof as possible surely. My money is put where my mouth is, I have 2 of them and very happy with them.
