Got this card on ebay as new and it looks new from a seller not a shop.

the card needs 6+8 pin and I only have 6 pin connectors but 2 of them have a +2 attached.

So I connected the card up this way and on my mobo boot logo it is showing distorted lines once it boots to my windows 10 login screen the monitor goes black.

I've seen this before a long time ago on a faulty GFX card but wanted to make sure it's not my power supply

1.2 Metre UK Power cable included

Someone has suggested I buy a 6-8pin adapter to see if that would work? instead of using the 6+2 pin but I personally can't see why it wouldn't work?

I've contacted the seller to let them know the card could be faulty and that I would have another go with it but if I can't get it working it will have to be returned

Any advice welcome

6 + 2 = 8
They are designed that way so t6hey can be used for either 6-pin or 8-pin power ports. The power supply brand I'm unfamiliar with so I doubt it is a quality power supply. However, I don't see it being the issue in this instance, I personally think you got scammed on Ebay with a faulty card.

True, faulty card or not I'd look into a better PSU.

Thanks for getting back to me I figured that the 6+2 should work. I've put my old card in gtx 570 and that is working no problems I also tried an old 460 and that is fine as well.

I'm going to have another go with it in a bit and then file a dispute with ebay should it not work the seller was selling it as new with some missing bits from the box but looking at the card it does look new no signs of wear at all or dust.

Could be that they got it faulty and wouldn't work with them so thought they would flog it on ebay saying card has never been used just taken out of box for photos

If you had purchased the card new, I would say the power supply, but since this card is from Ebay I'm highly suspicious. I am also unsure if a bad power supply could eve cause an issue like this, because if it wasn't supplying proper power I would imagine it simply not working at all.

Totally agree with you. I would assume the 2x6 pin 570 would have problems if it were the power supply but the pc runs with no faults. I'll see how it goes later when I give it another go

Well the power supply was from Ebuyer and it wasn't cheap £53 not as cheap as some but I'm reluctant to spend like £80 on a better names unit after paying £107 on a card that could be faulty.

but I will take onboard all the advice though

A faulty card is always possible, even new. On the other hand, plenty of people are upgrading their GTX 680 on account that the GTX 970 performs 50 percent faster for only 350 bucks. If I may ask, what did you pay on ebay? a GTX 680 performs just a tad better then a GTX 960. It may be worth while to just buy new.

I did consider new but I was on a budget. I paid £107 inc postage for the card not sure what that is in $$ probably about $130 rough guess. I wanted a slightly better card for when battlefront came out

I spent a bit of time looking at the benchmark results on different sights and other than getting a GTX 590 but read about loads of problems I opted for the slightly better 680.

I have a laptop with an i7 quadcore 2.5ghz and a 860m GFX while it can play most games I tried to play "call to arms" in ultra mode and it was stuttering at about 5fps

I tried the same on my desktop with an old AMD 965 black edition x4 3.4ghz with the 570 card and it ran around 25-30 fps in ultra mode which is why I opted for a bit better card that would meet my budget.

I've also had a good look at the back of the 680 card and notice some scratch marks on the circuit board some of them go over the white lines I've taken photos of them as this could be the cause of it

yeah I managed to get the pc to boot into safe mode and changed drivers as read that was an issue but the desktop start menu was very jumpy and after the driver install it wouldn't even boot into the login screen the monitor would go into standby right after the windows logo
