The graphics card that came with my Mac Pro 3,1 (early 2008) apparently died. And, it did so at an inconvenient time.

I purchased a used EVGA GeForce GTX 680 Classified Mac Edition card as a replacement. Unfortunately, the card didn't come with any cables and now I don't know how to get it installed and running. Stupid me thought it would be a simple card swap using the existing cables - which is not the case. The GeForce card used a 6-pin power cable that fed a 6-pin plug on the card. This GTX 680 card has two, 8-pin connectors. Forum searches are providing discussions that are averaging at least five years old. EVGA's own website seems to no longer have any documentation regarding cabling or installation. Even contacting Best Buy for help as a last resort produced no information.

The discussions seem to be conflicting on what to do... Get two 6-pin cables and attach them... Get a 6-pin to 8-pin connector and attach it... Etc...

Can anyone remember back to this model and tell me what is needed? And equally important, where do I even find these cables?

Solution
in this video from Tek Syndicate, Wendell upgraded a mac pro with a new card as well as some other parts. I cant skim the video rn for the exact time he did it, however I know he had a way of supplying pcie power to the card. Just skim the video and look for him installing graphics cards and you should find out how to do this.
