GTX 680 Power Help

I have recently bought a GTX 680 and my 800W PSU only has one 6 pin PCIe cable.

Would purchasing a 6 pin to 8 pin adapter supply enough power?

hmn, an 800w with ONLY one 6pin? even a 500w will give you 2 of them, higher ones will give you 4.
it's either a very old psu or not a good one

i would not use that then, esp with an expensive card like that, i would not risk it

I see. Out of interest would using the adapter idea work?

i think it would, as long as the psu is of good quality (even the cables)
top end card draw big current (that is why they have a requirement of a certain ampere in the 12v line)

so if the psu do not have the cable, it is a sign that it is not built for that. it may work, but the higher the power draw (high end gpu) the higher the risk

Yeah get a higher quality PSU, if that truely could give 800w on the 12v output then it would have more than 1x 6 pin.
