Hi guys. I'm currently own gtx680 SOC sli is almost most powerful 680 series from gigabyte. I need your advice, shall I stay with my current gtx 680 sli soc and wait for 980ti release or grab a GTX 980 AMP Extreme Edition from zotac (not sli, single card). I don't know or its worth it. Need your advice. Thanks

I see no reason to upgrade if the main thing you are playing is Diablo 3. Your SLI 680s or even one 680 should already be getting everything you can get out of that game. You certainly don't need to go out and buy a 980 for that game.

Edit: for reference, the recommended GPU in the system specs for Diablo 3 is a GTX 260. Both the 980 and SLI 680s are severe overkill for that game.

BTW I use 2560x1440 monitor. If you ask me or I had lags or fps issues with games I played. I would answer no, everything work fine no lags no fps problems. The only problem SOC series got 5 fans . it means I have 10 fans, they a bit noisy. I need a quite card which could handle 2560x1440 resolution. Any advice?

Then why change now? I would stick with them for a bit, the R-9 360X is should be announced later this month, it will show what AMD has been up to with their new VRAM set up. It sounds like a whole new ball game in core design to set NV back a bit. The 380/390 will not be out till late in the year, just like what NV did with the 750Ti, a taste of Maxwell.

My bet is NV has something in the wings to counter AMD, so wait until then to see what shakes out if your 680s rock now for you. Also I read they will be pretty high wattage due to the way they are made so it looks like AMD is not going the low power road NV is on for now. Perhaps that is why new high power PS are still being released, just wondering... :)

The 980 is actually slightly faster than a 690 (http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-980-vs-GeForce-GTX-690), and while it may not be quite as fast as 680s in SLI, the difference would be negligible; for performance at least. Keep in mind, though, that the 980 would give youi roughly the same performance as two 680s while drawing less power than a single 680! I think that's a pretty big deal, and you can SLI the 980 later if you'd like.

All that said, however, just wait out the next card release. A single 680 is more than enough to run Diablo III. By the time you want a new game that demands a lot from your GPU, you'll just get the best card out. Plus you'll have squeezed three generations of use out of your 680, which would be impressive in it's own right 🙂

I really don't think it makes sense to sell your SLI 680s for a 980 to play Diablo 3. Again, the recommended GPU for Diablo 3 is a GTX 260. You're already miles ahead of that. I guess I don't know what the used 680 market is but unless you can get enough from selling the two of those to buy a 980 I don't see the point.

A single 680 will give you all the performance you need for Diablo 3. You said you aren't playing other modern games. Even if your total out of pocket cost is small I don't know why you would want to spend any amount of money for no in game improvement.

The only reason I can see doing this is if you are having trouble with SLI or don't like the heat of having two GPUs. I really don't think there will be any performance difference in Diablo 3 so whatever you are going to spend to get this done won't be worth it.

You keep saying you are experiencing high FPS and no problems with your SLI 680s so why do you feel the need to buy a new card?
