How does 2x GTX 680 (2 GB) compares to a single GTX 980 (4GB) considering I like to play with Ultra textures at a 2560x1440 resolution?

Would I lose lots of processing power?

I feel like my GTX 680s are bottlenecked because of their VRAM when it comes to play beautiful games at 1440p.

970 SLI is the best option since you mentioned 2k/ultra which is VERY demanding. 980 can't max quite a few games @ 2k and even "ultra" in some games is not truly ultra as there are always more options you can turn on to destroy FPS.

I bet your 680s on high settings get 60+ FPS @ 2k with no frame dips/vram bottlenecks. Even with a 780ti on the most demanding games like DA:I, Metro:LL I use high instead of ultra to feed my monitor lots of frames so I can enjoy high hz.
no question 4GB of ram there is your answer unless u wana deal with stuttering avoid the 2gb lol

imo Best bang for the Buck 970SLI a single 970 is not far off from a GTX980 and is a lot cheaper GTX970 SLI will run u about 100USD More than a GTX980 with a HUGE FPS boost

if u dont like dealing with SLI just get the single GTX980 it will do a better job than 680SLI coz of the VRAM

Alright thanks guys :)

I'll see for a 770 Sli possibility. It's true that 2GB VRAM video cards are bottlenecked nowadays because of the increased resolution and texture quality.
It's sad that I get 20-30 FPS on some titles in 1440p even with those great cards.

What would the power requirement be for 2x 970?

Currently running smooth with my Corsair HX750.

Gtx 970 itself needs 145 watts only!
To sli gtx 970 you need 700-750 watts psu.

Oh sorry I did meant 970 Sli xD It's the fatigue :)
