Hello,

I have GTX 690 and have recently purchased a 2560* 1440 Asus monitor. I usually game in 3D and always have ALL settings turned up to their maximum in games.

At this resolution im getting very low FPS,

Is gaming at this resolution so taxing that I need to start reducing the graphics settings? I thought the GTX 690 would be able to handle it! Does anyone have any suggestions as to why i might be getting low FPS or is it simply a case of GTX690 is not enough for everything to be at max

Thanks

Gizmo

What CPU and other specs are you running ?

It's not just the resolution it's also the 3d.

With that said can't really be of any help.

No system specs, no game list that you're having problems, etc..

thanks for your swift responses, sorry should have posted a bit more detail

System Specs

CPU :- Intel i7 2600K ( not overclocked at the moment )
Mboard :- GA77X UD5H
Ram 8GB G.Skill DDR3 PC3-17000 2133MHz RipjawsX Series
PSU Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 1200W
Case Fractal R4
6tb+ of hard drive space

Running dual monitors being the Asus VG278H 3D monitor and the PB278Q as I wanted to game sometimes in 3D and other times at the high res. I do not use both for games at the same time

The games im having the problem with are Battlefield 3 and Max Payne 3. Max Payne ive had to dial back some of the setting as im running out of Video Memory at this resolution! The GTX 690 has 4GB. I read many times that at this resolution you can turn down Anti aliasing and you wont notice. I must have amazing eyesight as i definitely notice a difference with it turned down

Going to try reinstalling Nvidia drivers tonight to see if that helps my frame rates

That is correct 3d will drop your frames. Also due to the ram on the card it may be limiting because its 2 gigabytes instead of the 4 you can get. Both of those games will use up all that ram without 3d add 3d and you add another element.

Using a that high of a resolution will eat up VRAM even if only gaming on 1 monitor. Have you downloaded MSI Afterburner or any other GPU monitoring program that allows you to monitor GPU VRAM usage? See if thats the problem. If you're running out of VRAM when playing those games which I dont think you should be as you said you have 4gb. But never hurts to check. And to be honest. It could be a bottleneck in your case. A i7 2600k is a awesome CPU, but pairing it with such a card as a 690 at stock speeds could be your problem.

ok thanks Casper the MSI afterburner showed im not exceeding my memory but also showed that 1 GPU didnt show any change in mhz or temp suggesting it wasnt being used when playing a game.

Went into the NVidia control Panel and changed the Configure multi GPU setting from 'Activate all displays' to 'Maximise 3D performance'(which turns one screen off), ran the test again, game was running very smooth in high res and both GPUs were being utilised.

Im now confused as to why activate all displays is only utilising 1 GPU

Sorry for delayed response as have been on holiday, what do you mean by nvidia surround, is there seperate software I need to download for use with multiple monitors?

Im using the options available to me in Nvidia control panel to activate all displays, this seems to disable SLI

This guy goes into it. Its within the Nvidia control Panel you just go through the instructions and bam! About a 1:30 in he goes into the software element.

That is awesome! However doesnt solve my problem as using Nvidia surround forces all displays to 1080p which isnt what I want. Im going to open a new thread as this is a new issue really

Thanks for your help

You should definitely be able to get both monitors working with SLI enabled. Perhaps you can try another port with your 2nd monitor. If all else fails, try contacting the GPU's maker or Nvidia, and they may be able to help you.

you have one monitor that is not capable of 3D. 3D requires 120hz monitor with Nvidia vision tech certified and all 120hz monitors are 1080p. And that may be why you are having this issue. And that may be the source of your problem because when you enable 3D you are having issues retaining that resolution on your 1440p monitor so you need to find a way to have one monitor do 3d and one to stay at 1440p and I'm not sure how you would go at that.

Ive changed the ports and got it working thankyou, strange config on the back of the gtx 690 to connect both monitors to the same card which is what I needed to do to have SLI working.

I still have to turn down settings slightly to get high end games to work well. i.e max payne with all settings at max I get a message saying out of video memory!! I thought id be able to throw anything at the GTX690, it seems thats not the case. A couple of Nvidia Titans wouldnt have this problem :) however I have more sense than money
