The Optiplex 3020 comes with a 290W 80 Plus Gold Rated Power Supply so I know that is not enough power. I plan on running a second power supply in the 5.25 bay. My question is...

Will the GTX 690, a dual GPU being two 680's in one card work in the Optiplex 3020? The 3020 only has one PCIE X16 Full Length slot. Would the motherboard have to support SLI? Does the motherboard essentially read the 690 as a SLI configuration?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Why not just replace the power supply totally instead of adding on another one? Just more complexity added the other way when it's simpler to just replace the old PSU.

The dual cards should speak to each other via the board, you should be fine using it. Other question is why are you getting a 3 year old video card instead of a newer single chip card that would be just as fast, like a GTX 970?

Does the 690 even fit in the case?

The Dell Optiplex has a proprietary PSU 8 pin connector on the Motherboard so using a different power supply was out of the question... at least until i found this:

So I will use this along with a power supply I have. I would rather not upgrade to a 970 as the 690 still gets the job done for me. I only game at 1080p.... for now. The 690 should fit...I hope. :)
