Hi there, I am debating on to get the GTX 690 or the GTX Titan. I will be playing on a single monitor at 1920x1080 and hope to Max out Crysis 3. I read a lot of reviews between these two cards but I'm still unsure. Money is not a problems so it won't matter. Thanks :bounce: :D

Get the TITAN. For 1 screen, it will max at 1080p easily. It maxed out fine on my 2560x1440 screen too. 690 have long-term driver issues from time to time on some games. (Crysis 3 and Tomb Raider 2013)

690 > TITAN on some games that support multi-GPUs really well, but 4GB VRAM can be VERY limiting soon enough.

TITAN X 2 SLI > 2 X 690. As VRAM does not stack and games run more smooth on 2 chips than 4. A good 800W PSU can run 2 TITANs, but will BSOD on you under load on 2 690. Even some high end 1000W PSUs BSOD under load with 2 690s...

TITAN X 3 SLI If you run 3 1080p screens maxed out.
TITAN X 4 SLI Overkill (remember VRAM don't stack in SLI, so running 2560x1440x3 will short on VRAM causing FPS drops).

Well titan is a damn good card and I just order my second one.
But thats for playing with 3x1080p monitors 1 thats 3D.

But i would still recommend 690 if you are certain that you will only be playing with 1 monitor.
If you are considering playing with eyefinity or surround sometime in the future get titan.
In the end both cards are good so its hard to make a critical error.

You can only go up to 3 cards in SLI for the Titan. I have no idea why, but that's just how it is. :)

I'm pretty sure you can do it 4-way.

According to this article, I guess I stand corrected. However, Nvidia stated originally that Quad-SLI would not be possible. I have no clue why, if all of these testers can. Weird.

Yet another voice. I would think, if you have some money, you would consider a larger screen. Why not go for a 27inch 2560X1440 or 30 inch 2560X1600? Frankly, that would give you a lot more wow factor than a 1920X1080 screen going 200 FPS. A couple rules of thumb. Don't SLI or CF unless you have to. Sometimes it works great, not other times. Depends on many factors, not always a simple driver issue. If you must CF/SLI, the more powerful the cards, the better.

I have an associate that has a 1680 X 1050 display and he cannot max out in Far Cry 3. For a 1920 X 1080 display, you are going to need dual 7970's/50's or dual 670's/80's. I'd recommend dual 670's.

Do not go 4GB with the 670's, for testing shows, to make use of the extra ram, you actually need three 670's. Otherwise the cards are so slow at the large display, high quality settings that they run out of graphics horsepower before they go above 2GB in memory.

In short, for the best possible 1920X1080 experience, Titan.

For the best possible 2560X1440, 2560X1600, triple screen, Titan SLI.

I would buy one Titan and save the rest of the money for sex, drugs and rock and roll! : )

About the 690, the 4 gb of ram might come "short" in November or so ( next gen of consoles). When I say short i mean recomended hardware. A new dual GPU might be on it´s way, very, very soon!

Don´t forget about the CPU bottleneck and drivers. Otherwise you might end up buying a Ferrari to found out later than you can only drive on a traffic jam.

Remember that the video game´s industry is very concerned to get as many machines as possible wich means that in the next 5 years 4 GB of Ram will be probably the best configuration for one screen.

One thing is for sure, things are going to step a bit after the next gen of consoles. Still, don´t worry about it, my last PC lasted me for almost 7 years. I find myself buying a new one because my CPU is just old and slow.

Titan would be a better choice even though price/performance ratio it might not be worth the money compared to a 690, overclocking capabilities on the titan are pretty good and can easily be clocked 1100mHz which closes the performance gap between the 690 and the Titan considerably.

Also with any SLi setup your gonna have issues with micro-stuttering and some games not being optimised for it means an SLi setup doesn't always give better frame rates. Always better to go with 1 gpu. Titan is pretty much future proof for a good 4 or 5 years because when next gen cards are released the titan will drop in price and you can SLi it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All that you wrote makes sense, and you are quite right about some factual points. So i am just going to highlight some points about some stuff that i read till now.

1 - GTX Titan is the most powerful single GPU card on the market, at least for now. That is an obvious fact.

2 - GTX 690 is a double GPU graphic card and runs on a different level than GTX TITAN. Never the less, when compared with the TITAN is 15% (average) faster than GTX TITAN.

References: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6774/nvidias-geforce-gtx-titan-part-2-titans-performance-unveiled

3 - IF you own a GTX 690 or an SLI of the same card, if you decide to "upgrade" to a TITAN you are actually downgrading.

4 - GTX TiTAn is 47% (average) faster than GTX 680 and 34% (average) faster when compared to an HD 7970 (all reference cards). The percentages would be less relevant on other none reference graphic cards.

References: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6774/nvidias-geforce-gtx-titan-part-2-titans-performance-unveiled

5 - GTX Titan cost 1000$ as well as the GTX 690 and they are both premium Graphic Cards. They are designed to reach high / ultra settings when running multiple monitors.

6 - GTX Titan is a better choice compared to a GTX 690, when you have 3 monitors because of the 6 Gb Vram.

7 - You need 3 GTX Titan to beat 2 GTX Titan. That´s 3000$ vs 2000$.

8 - At 1920X1080p:
On BT Field 3, there is a gap of 27 FPS between the GTX TITAN and the GTX 690.
On Crysis 3, there is a gap of 11 FPS between the GTX TITAN and the GTX 680

9 - Micro- Stuttering issues can occur also on GTX TITAN. Take a look at this link: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/536434/micro-stutter-with-gtx-titan/

10 - There are rumors about the authorisation to produce TITAns with "aftermarket" cooling systems.

11 - There are rumors about a Less expensive model of the GTX TITAN.

12 - There might emerge a new dual GPU Graphic card soon. Therefore, the GTX TITAN will have it´s price droped or the new dual Gpu card will even more expensive than GTX 690.

13 - GTX Titan is very expensive, it should cost less 200$ or 300$ than it´s actuall price.

14 - GTX 690 in SLI will most probably be CPU bottlenecked when compared to a GTX TITAN in SLI.

For the record, i am still in doubght if i am buying a 690 or a TITAN.

Yeah the titan is well overpriced no doubt... but if your certain that microstuttering issues still occur on it? I thought they only happened on multi gpu set ups. In that case a GTX 690 may be the better option. If I were you I would wait until the next gen of video cards as that will see a big price drop in the titan, I think I read somewhere on the internet that they are set to launch in the winter of 2013.

First of all it would be crossfire not SLI and secondly the 7970s would run the best because crysis is performance maximized for AMD and radeon cards :)
